Field Day

Field Day 2

A Note from Principal Eck

Dear Spring Hill Families,

We had a fun-filled field day. Thank you to all our wonderful volunteers and staff who made this day memorable for all our students.

Next Thursday, we will host our 6th-grade promotion ceremony. I am excited to see all of our families and guests and celebrate this mini-milestone.

Friday is an early release day. Our dismissal will be at 1:35 PM. We hope that you have a wonderful summer.

Yearbooks have arrived. We will be distributing them on Monday. If you ordered a yearbook, please be on the look out for it.

Last, If your student took SOL tests this spring, you can view their scores in SIS ParentVUE now. Use a web browser to log into your SIS ParentVUE account: https://sisparent.fcps.edu. You will find spring SOL test performance levels and overall scores in the Test History section. You will also get an official score report in ParentVUE Documents by the end of July. Don’t have a ParentVUE account? Create one today: https://www.fcps.edu/resources/technology/student-information-system-sis-fcps/sis-parent-account-registration.

     Have a wonderful weekend!

Kiss & Ride Changes June 8

On Wednesday, June 8th, Kiss and Ride will be adjusted and the back parking lot will be closed due to the 6th grade party. This means that only the Kiss and Ride small loop and front parking lot will be open for drop-off traffic.  Please plan on either dropping off your student a little earlier or parking at the Rec Center and walking your students across the street. For your convenience, we will open our doors at 8:15 AM and have students report to the cafeteria until the first bell rings. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Summer Technology Access

Students will continue to have access to the many programs available on the Spring Hill Student Links/Digital Resources page over the summer, including Reflex Math for all students and Type to Learn for rising 3rd-6th graders. Please be aware of times where intermittent interruptions may occur for updates and maintenance. In addition, student access to many of our FCPS programs will continue to be available over the summer. These include MyOn, Pioneer Valley, and PebbleGo, as well as Clever programs such as Wixie, Imagine Learning, and ST Math. Students may make use of their fcpsschools.net Google accounts, including any content saved in their Google Drive as long as they remain a student in FCPS.

We highly encourage that you use Reflex Math and Imagine Learning routinely over the summer. This will help your student keep up their numeracy and literacy skills.

Summer Reading

As we finish up the 2021-2022 school year, the most important thing you can do for your brain this summer is to KEEP READING! All Panthers are encouraged to fill out their Summer Reading “Shelfies” with anything they read this summer. All students and staff who hand one in will receive a prize in the fall! Please see the Spring Hill Summer Reading Website for more information on the shelfie, other summer reading programs (including the Fairfax County Public Library one that could earn you 2 free Nationals tickets), book lists, e-books, and other fun things to do. Students will need to be logged into their fcpsschools.net account to access the website. Hard copies of the “Shelfie” page may be picked up from the library during the last week of school. We look forward to hearing about everything you read over the summer! Mrs. DeVylder and Mrs. Lefcourt

End of Year Student Medication Pickup

The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time (1:35 PM) on the last day of school June 10, 2022.  Medication left in the health room after that time will be discarded.  It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian.  Medication cannot be sent home with your student.  However, with parent or guardian permission, a high school student may transport over-the-counter medications to and from the school health room.

Medication authorization forms for next school year may be obtained from the school or online at https://www.fcps.edu/resources/student-safety-and-wellness/school-health-services.   A medication authorization form is required for any medication, prescription or over-the-counter, to be kept at school.

Questions may be directed to the Spring Hill health room, 703-506-3410, or our PHN Lema Kayer at lkayer1@fcps.edu

Free and Reduced-Price Meal Applications Due This Summer

Families must submit an application and be approved to be eligible for free and reduced price meals for SY 22-23. For the past two years, the federal government has provided no-cost meals to all public school students without the need to complete the annual Free and Reduced-Price Meal application. However, the extension of the no-cost meals benefit to all students is expected to expire at the end of this school year.

I encourage you to submit the Free and Reduced-Price Meal application prior to the first day of the 22-23 school year. The online application will be available later this summer. Watch your email and our website for more information. Learn more about the Free and Reduced-Price Meal program online.

No-cost summer meals will be served at all FCPS summer school locations this year. Please visit the FCPS website for updated information during the summer.

If you have questions about the Free and Reduced-Price Meals program, the additional benefits your child may receive, or no-cost summer meals, please contact our front office at (703) 506-3400. We are happy to help.

Family Return to School Survey

We are interested in hearing about how the 2021-22 school year has gone for students. You have an opportunity to provide your feedback on our Family Return to School Survey which you should have received via email.

The survey is being administered by the FCPS Office of Research and Strategic Improvement, which provides objective research and data-based information back to the school division’s leadership. The survey is part of the office’s continuing evaluation of the pandemic’s impact on our school division.

We encourage all Spring Hill parents/caregivers to respond to the survey and share their experiences whether positive or negative. The information you and other families provide will be used, along with other data, to inform FCPS leadership about the return to five days a week of in-person instruction, and support FCPS’ efforts to make improvements that support schools, students, and staff. It will also be included in ESSER III reporting.

Summer Registration Updates

If you have student registration materials to submit, please contact Spring Hill Registrar, Young-Joo Kim at ykim1@fcps.edu, or 703-506-3400 to set up an appointment.  New student registration will be closed by FCPS after June 10.  Any new registrations received after June 10 will be processed after July 20.

If you are moving or transferring to another FCPS school, please complete this Student’s Intention for the Next School Year form.
