Student Laptop Collection
Students who received an FCPS laptop and charger this year will need to return it to school beginning Wednesday, June 8th. All laptops and chargers must be returned so that they can be updated for next school year. However, IF your student is attending summer programming and needs to keep their device, we need parents to complete this form to let us know.
Laptops and chargers will be collected outside of the cafeteria on Wednesday, June 8th and Thursday, June 9th during all lunches.
Any questions, please contact Kelsea Owens (kfowens@fcps.edu).
Principal's Message...
Dear KJMS Community,
We would like to extend a congratulations to all of our Fairfax High School seniors who graduated this past Monday. It was a day full of smiles and great memories! Additionally, we want to congratulate our extended family of other high school and college graduates during this spring of 2022. We have much to celebrate with our families!
Next week marks the last week of school. Tuesday is a big day for us with Awards Day, 8th Grade Celebration, and 7th Grade Movie Event. Please let us know how you can help. For the Awards, they will be online via a link you will be emailed on Monday. We know that parking can be a challenge, and that many of you work and have a hard time getting to school. So, this live streaming option will help with both of those concerns. As well, you can share the link with family members who live out of town so all can join in the celebration.

Volunteer form to help with the 8th Grade Celebration and to help with 7th Grade Movie Day popcorn.
In closing, our Blue Ribbon music groups were at Kings Dominion today for a statewide competition. Be sure to see the pics of them as they performed! We wish them the best of luck.
Happy Last Weekend of the 2021-22 School Year,
Tammy Silipigni, Principal
Congratulations Mr. Deans!!
Here at KJMS, we took time this past week to celebrate one of our math teachers, Mr. Kevin Deans. He received recognition from the FCPS Cares Program (thanks to parent nominations!) as the Region 5 April FCPS Cares Program Winner. He was also recognized as a 2022 Cox Education Hero, one of 4 in all of FCPS! Our teachers are continuing to do many wonderful things with our students, and we thank you for the support you provide at home.

Remember to Pick Up Any Medication from the Health Room Before June 10!
The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than 11:30 AM on Friday, June 10. Medication left in the health room after that time will be discarded. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student.
If your child will be enrolled in a summer program sponsored by Fairfax County Public Schools, your existing long-term medication authorization form(s) may be used for the summer program. Please let the health room know if you would like a copy of the form(s).
Your cooperation will ensure that we can safely give your student his or her medication. If you have any questions, please contact your school health room aide, at 703-934-2410, or your school public health nurse, Anna Wendland-Budzyn at 703-934-2410.

Next week, all the parents of students who will be recognized will receive emails from staff or phone calls inviting them to attend. This event will also be live streamed in case you cannot come in person or if you want to share the event with family and friends. We will email each family their student’s Team Award Link closer to June 7, 2022. Here is the schedule for the day for planning purposes.

Our 7th graders will spend time in their TA classrooms doing other activities such as watching “Hidden Figures,” the Disney movie about our namesake, Katherine Johnson, and her team as they helped get our first astronauts to the moon.

FCPS Summer Learning
A reminder that FCPS Online Campus Summer Courses are open for registration and available to eligible middle school students who meet prerequisites and technical requirements. Students may take one online course for first time or repeat credit. Middle school students may not take a mathematics course during the summer as their first high school level mathematics course. Courses are rigorous; therefore, students should consult their counselor prior to registering. Program information is available at Summer Learning.
Want to make a difference in the life of a child? Fairfax County Public Schools is looking for enthusiastic, engaged, and dedicated substitute teachers.
Substitutes help our students thrive when their teacher must be out of the classroom and are essential members of every school’s team. More information about the application process and requirements is available online.
Multilingual Parent Podcasts: Making the Transition to Middle School

Making the move from elementary school to middle school can be both an exciting and unsettling time for a parent and student. In this week’s podcast, hear ways to ease the transition by:
- Understanding the developmental changes in your child.
- Getting to know middle school culture.
- Encouraging independence, but remaining available.
- Offering emotional support to your child.
- Reiterating your family values and expectations.
- Staying involved in your child’s school.
This podcast’s infomercial is about summer camps. It’s not too early to start thinking about summer fun. The FCPS Tech Adventure Camp and the Career and Technical Education Camp are taking registrations for summer 2022.
