Tech Team News

Dear Bush Hill Families,

Media and technology use has increased over the years. Learning how to use media and technology wisely is an essential skill. The tech team would like to share resources on Digital Citizenship. Digital Citizenship refers to the responsible use of technology by anyone who uses computers, the Internet, and digital devices to engage with society. Students throughout the year receive Digital Citizenship lessons through their tech class or own classes. Students learn about online etiquette, personal data, learning to identify safe websites, password protection, promote media literacy, creative rights, digital footprints, and building healthy usage patterns. These lessons are from Common Sense Media.org. Please feel free to use these resources to continue the conversations at home. The resources are divided by grade level and are available in different languages.

PTA News - Please Consider A PTA Board Position

Panther Families,

The Bush Hill Elementary School PTA hopes you have had a wonderful school year and that you’re all geared up for summer break.

We have one last ask of you before we head into summer. To build on the wonderful work of our current PTA Board and to continue to build our sense of community and school spirit, we’re hoping to get our new PTA on board this summer.

We hope you’ll hear our call to action!

We are seeking nominations for the following positions:

President*

Vice President, Membership

Vice President, Fundraising

Treasurer*

Secretary

The two *starred* positions need to be filled in order for the PTA to remain in good standing.

Please consider nominating yourself or another PTA member to serve on the PTA Board. Nominations are due by Friday, June 10th and may be emailed to BHESnominations@gmail.com.

The PTA will present the nominations via email no later than June 11th and will give members one week to vote. Please note that due to the virtual nature of the election, we will hold the vote via exception, which means that if you vote NO, you need to email the President with your no vote by June 17th.

We know the end of the year is tough and that it’s been a long year, but we’re asking for your support in getting our new PTA Board up and running so they can start planning for an exciting 2022-2023 school year.

Thank you for your interest and willingness to serve our school community!

Free and Reduced-Price Meal Applications Due This Summer

Free and Reduced-Price Meals, graphic of a packed lunch, drink, apple

For the past two years, the federal government has provided no-cost meals to all public school students without the need to complete the annual Free and Reduced-Price Meal application. The extension of the no-cost meals benefit to all students is expected to expire at the end of this school year, meaning families must submit an application and be approved to be eligible for free and reduced price meals for the 2022-23 school year.

Eligible families are encouraged to submit the Free and Reduced-Price Meal application before the first day of the 2022-23 school year. The online application will be available later this summer and accessible via the FCPS homepage.

Students approved for Free and Reduced-Price Meals may qualify for additional benefits such as waived or reduced fees for instruments, uniforms, field trips, FCPS class fees, and Parktakes classes.

Summer Meal Service

No-cost summer meals will be served at all FCPS summer school locations this year. Please visit our website for updated information during the summer.
