Terra Centre Updates 06/03/22

June Calendar heading

Terra Centre Families,

We had a wonderful time at our 2022 6th grade promotion ceremonies today! It is hard to believe that the year is coming to a close and we have five days of school left.

As we take a moment to reflect on this past school year, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you for trusting us with your children each and every day. We have enjoyed having them share their lives with us and we will miss them dearly over the summer.

With one week left to go, our lost and found has become quite full! Please have your child check the lost and found, which is located in the cafeteria.

As a reminder, there is a 2 hour early release on Friday, June 10th. Dismissal is at 1:25 pm.

Please scroll down for additional important dates, events, and news!

Sincerely,

Rebecca Gidoni, Principal

Teresa Lewis, Assistant Principal

Attendance Matters

Please remember the importance of late-year attendance for school success.  While we acknowledge that many students may be experiencing year-end burnout, it is important that all students need to be in school.  On time.  Everyday.

  • The last day of the school year is Friday, June 10th. We expect all students to be in school until the last day.  Please plan any trips and appointments accordingly.

LGBTQIA+

In the month of June we recognize the valuable contributions of LGBTQIA+ individuals across America, and we reaffirm our commitment to standing in solidarity with LGBTQIA+ Americans in their ongoing struggle against discrimination and injustice.

Juneteenth commemorates the day in 1865 that word of the Emancipation Proclamation and the end of the Civil War finally reached enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, effectively marking the end of slavery in the United States.

Free and Reduced-Price Meal Applications/ Summer Meals

Families must submit an application and be approved to be eligible for free and reduced price meals for SY 22-23. For the past two years, the federal government has provided no-cost meals to all public school students without the need to complete the annual Free and Reduced-Price Meal application. However, the extension of the no-cost meals benefit to all students is expected to expire at the end of this school year.

I encourage you to submit the Free and Reduced-Price Meal application prior to the first day of the 22-23 school year. The online application will be available later this summer. Watch your email and our website for more information. Learn more about the Free and Reduced-Price Meal program online.

No-cost summer meals will be served at all FCPS summer school locations this year. Please visit the FCPS website for updated information during the summer.

If you have questions about the Free and Reduced-Price Meals program, the additional benefits your child may receive, or no-cost summer meals, please contact [insert your school’s point of contact]. We are happy to help.

Thank you!

Family Return to School Survey

Remind families to participate in the Family Return to School Survey with the following message. Refer to the Family Return to School Survey Talking Points to answer any questions.

[SCHOOL] Families,

We are interested in hearing about how the 2021-22 school year has gone for students. You have an opportunity to provide your feedback on our Family Return to School Survey which you should have received via email.

The survey is being administered by the FCPS Office of Research and Strategic Improvement, which provides objective research and data-based information back to the school division’s leadership. The survey is part of the office’s continuing evaluation of the pandemic’s impact on our school division.

We encourage all [SCHOOL] parents/caregivers to respond to the survey and share their experiences whether positive or negative. The information you and other families provide will be used, along with other data, to inform FCPS leadership about the return to five days a week of in-person instruction, and support FCPS’ efforts to make improvements that support schools, students, and staff. It will also be included in ESSER III reporting.

Vax Up

Do Your Part- VaxUP!

FCPS has seen an increase in COVID-19 cases recently as the county has transitioned to the medium community level. Schools continue to apply layered prevention strategies to maintain a healthy work and learning environment. However, each of us has a responsibility to do our part to help keep ourselves, our students, and our colleagues safe.

Easy ways to “Do Your Part” include: staying up to date on vaccinations and boosters, considering when and where to choose to mask up, practicing good hygiene, and monitoring symptoms daily.

A single booster dose is now authorized for children ages 5-11, at least five months after completing a primary series with the Pfizer vaccine. Learn more about scheduling a COVID-19 vaccine appointment or find a walk-in option on the Fairfax County Health Department’s website.
