This week our band, strings, and chorus students displayed their learning through a phenomenal Spring Concert!

Bucknell families,

We've had another amazing week at school as we head into the last few days of the school year! Our highlight was the Spring Concert! Students were able to display their learning through band, strings, and chorus performances.  This was our first assembly - all students had a chance to enjoy the concert while at school.  At night we welcomed families back to school to share the concert one more time! Our students were phenomenal and we're so proud of their hard work and thankful for their teachers.

Next week is the last week of school with many exciting events for students, which includes Team Building Day, 6th Grade v. Staff Kickball, and 6th Grade Promotion.  In addition, next week we will have a lock down drill.  Please talk to your children about what to expect.

We're grateful for each and everyone one of you, each and every day.  Enjoy the nice weather this weekend!

Sincerely,

Rashida Green, Principal

Tory Swanson, Assistant Principal

Free & Reduced Price Meal Applications/Summer Meals

free

Families must submit an application and be approved to be eligible for free and reduced price meals for SY 22-23. For the past two years, the federal government has provided no-cost meals to all public school students without the need to complete the annual Free and Reduced-Price Meal application. However, the extension of the no-cost meals benefit to all students is expected to expire at the end of this school year.

I encourage you to submit the Free and Reduced-Price Meal application prior to the first day of the 22-23 school year. The online application will be available later this summer. Watch your email and our website for more information. Learn more about the Free and Reduced-Price Meal program online.

No-cost summer meals will be served at all FCPS summer school locations this year. Please visit the FCPS website for updated information during the summer.

If you have questions about the Free and Reduced-Price Meals program, the additional benefits your child may receive, or no-cost summer meals, please contact the main office at 703-660-2900. We are happy to help.

Family Return to School Survey

survey

We are interested in hearing about how the 2021-22 school year has gone for students. You have an opportunity to provide your feedback on our Family Return to School Survey which you should have received via email.

The survey is being administered by the FCPS Office of Research and Strategic Improvement, which provides objective research and data-based information back to the school division’s leadership. The survey is part of the office’s continuing evaluation of the pandemic’s impact on our school division.

We encourage all Bucknell families to respond to the survey and share their experiences whether positive or negative. The information you and other families provide will be used, along with other data, to inform FCPS leadership about the return to five days a week of in-person instruction, and support FCPS’ efforts to make improvements that support schools, students, and staff. It will also be included in ESSER III reporting.

kinder registration

Do you have a child at home who will be five by September 30th? Please start your registration now. If you have any neighbors with little ones, please send this information to them as well. These are the 5 steps you need to take to register your child. If you have questions regarding kindergarten registration, please reach out to Ms. Bowles or call our main office at (703) 660-2900.

arrival/dismissal

Absences and late arrivals should be reported to the office as classes start promptly at 8:55 a.m.

Bucknell ES front doors open at 8:45 and closes at  8:55AM. A child who arrives to school after 8:55 a.m. is considered tardy. If you know ahead of time that your child is going to be late or absent for the entire day, please call the school attendance line (703-660-2929) before 8:55 a.m. If the school does not receive a call from the family, the absence/tardy will automatically be considered unexcused.

Please call before 3:10 p.m. if you plan to pick up your child early from school. It is imperative that the front office staff has enough time to get the students from their classroom before dismissal begins. It is also helpful if you email your child's teacher so they are aware and able to get the student ready for an early dismissal.
