Mental Health and Parenting in 2022 Workshop
We are so proud of these students - and all the other former Fairfax Villa students - who are graduating this year! We loved having you back for the Grad Walk 2022!
1.Extra Yearbooks Available
Yearbooks will be distributed at the end of the day on Thursday, June 9. If you did not pre-order a yearbook and would like a copy, a limited number of additional copies will be available on a first come/ first serve basis. Please contact Deb MacLean in the school office at 703-267-2800 or dmmaclean1@fcps.edu to order. Yearbooks are $14 each. Payment can be made in cash (exact change, please) or check, payable to “Fairfax Villa Elementary School”. The actual payment is required to reserve a yearbook.
2.SOL and Other Scores/ParentVUE Accounts
We had planned to send home the SOL scores for our 3rd-6th graders on the last day of school; unfortunately, we found out that these will not be available until mid-July. At that time, these scores, as well as the iReady scores, will appear in ParentVue (ParentSIS). In mid-July, parents will receive a mailing of the SEL screener results.
For students who took the WIDA assessment, the results will be in ParentVue Test History by late August.
All parents should have their ParentSIS account set up so that they can get important information on their students. This is how many testing scores, including SOLs are given to parents. If you have never set up your account, please email Ms. Schmidt to request the information you will need to set up yours. If you have already created one but need help logging in, go here. There are separate accounts available for each parent/guardian if you would like individual ones.
3.Student Intention Forms for School Year 2022-2023
We need your help in projecting our total enrollment for next school year. For families NOT returning to Fairfax Villa ES in the fall of 2022, please complete and return the “Student’s Intention for the Next School Year” form by June 10.
A typed parent/guardian name on the Parent Signature line is acceptable. Save the completed form, attach it to an email and send to Silvia Dossmann, SIA, at SMDossmann@fcps.edu or send it to the main office.
Access the “Student’s Intention for the Next School Year” form on the FCPS public website: https://www.fcps.edu/sites/default/files/media/forms/it110.pdf
4.Farewell To Villa Staff Members
As the school year comes to an end, we sadly have to say goodbye to some of our staff members. This week, we are saying farewell to Ms. Ortega, Ms. Guimbard, and Ms. Corrigan. Here are their messages to our Villa community:
Ms. Ortega: Dear Fairfax Villa families, It is with great sadness that I’m letting you know that I’ve decided to leave Fairfax Villa. I’ve been given the opportunity to move to a new school, closer to home. While any decision to leave this amazing community is hard, personal reasons and current circumstances have made the decision to leave not easy, but necessary. I truly enjoyed working with the preschool students, teachers, and families. I will miss everyone very much and forever cherish the memories and friendships made throughout my time at the Villa.
Ms. Guimbard: Villa Community - as I leave this area to go to Tampa where I will be working with kindergartners and first graders, I want to thank everyone for your support to our school. I am grateful for all of you and wish you - and your students - all the best for your future.
Ms. Corrigan: Hi Fairfax Villa! I am going to be working full time at Silverbrook Elementary School next year as their ESOL teacher. It has been a wonderful time at the Villa even though it has only been three months 😊 Each one of you welcomed me warmly when I came and I do love this small but tight-knit community! I do hope our paths will cross again at some point in the future! Go Dragons!
5.6th Grade Promotion Ceremony
6th Grade Families! We will be holding our 6th grade promotion ceremony on Thursday, June 9 at 10:45 a.m. on our school blacktop. The event will include performances by our strings, band, and chorus students, as well as the presentation of our academic and citizenship awards. We hope you are able to join us. When you arrive, please go directly to the gate entrance to the blacktop near Door 6, sign in there, and find a seat in the section for families. You do not need to come inside the school.
Your students have achieved so much this school year and we are so proud of them. We wish all of you a safe and happy summer and encourage all of our students to read and learn something new each day. Enjoy time with your family and friends. On behalf of Mrs. Sobeski and the entire Fairfax Villa staff, we wish you the very best as your students leave Fairfax Villa and enter their next educational chapter and become a middle school student.
Your proud principal,
Mr. Gerstner
Ms. Eddy enjoyed visiting with some of her former 6th graders who are now graduating!
6.Donations Needed in the last few school days: Copy Paper
Due to budgetary restraints, we are in need of donated copy paper to support our academic activities during the 4th quarter of the school year. We are already considering whether printing is necessary for each task and choosing to double-side print when possible. Conserving paper will help us mitigate the paper shortage, save money, and reduce FCPS’ environmental footprint.
Please consider donating packs of paper to Fairfax Villa ES. Remember, the IRS allows you to claim a deduction for the donations you make to qualified organizations, including public schools. The type of paper that works best in our printers is:
- Copy and/or Multipurpose 8.5 inch x 11 inch
- Bright white
Thank you for your consideration in this donation request.
7.Field Day Water Bottles for Students
We are again in need of donations for water bottles for students. If you would like to donate some to our students, please bring them to the school office. We appreciate any donations you can provide.
Please make sure that your student has a refillable water bottle with them each day. This will help us in making sure that all students have water during the day and will also help us to be more environmentally friendly.
8.ParentSIS/ParentVue Accounts
All parents should have their ParentSIS account set up so that they can get important information on their students. This is how many testing scores, including SOLs are given to parents. If you have never set up your account, please email Ms. Schmidt to request the information you will need to set up yours. If you have already created one but need help logging in, go here. There are separate accounts available for each parent/guardian if you would like individual ones.
We loved having our former Villa Dragons back for Grad Walk 2022.

11.Shots Update for Rising 7th Grade Students
Dear Rising 7th Grade Families,
We are excited to welcome you and your students to Frost Middle School!
The Code of Virginia requires all students to be immunized against certain communicable diseases prior to entrance into Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS).
Effective July 1, 2021 all students entering 7th grade will be required to receive one dose of each of the following immunizations prior to the beginning of school: Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis booster (Tdap), and Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY).
Seventh grade students cannot begin school in August without proper Tdap and Meningococcal documentation.
If you have not done so yet, please provide one of the following documents to either your elementary school or to Frost Middle School as soon as possible:
- An updated immunization record showing that the student has received the immunization(s).
- A note on a healthcare provider’s letterhead stating the date the vaccine(s) was given.
- A healthcare provider’s written statement of a permanent or temporary medical exemption.
- A notarized Religious Exemption Form which is available online at:
http://www.doe.virginia.gov/support/health_medical/certificate_religious_exemption.pdf
Immunizations are available from your student's healthcare provider or the Fairfax County Health Department. The Health Department clinic locations and hours are available online at: https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/health/novel-coronavirus/vaccine/partners or by calling 703-746-2411.
Completing required immunizations and submitting documentation before the end of this school year will mean a smooth and easy transition for your new middle school student.
Please contact Ms. Emily Cheng at echeng@fcps.edu if you have any questions.
Thank you,
Anthony Harris
Principal, Frost Middle School
12.FCPS COVID-19 Dashboard for School Year 2021-2022
On a daily basis, Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is sharing COVID-19 cases (self-reported to us by students and staff) with the Fairfax County Health Department. The information in the link below helps the health department begin contact tracing. More information about the data is available in the "About" tab on the site.
https://www.fcps.edu/return-school/fcps-confirmed-covid-19-case-reporting
Clicking on the 4th tab (FCPS Reported Daily Cases by Site), scrolling far over to the right, and then choosing our school in the dropdown box on the right side will give you the data for our school.
13.Daily Health Screening Reminder
On a daily basis, please consider if any of the following are true for your child, and if so, please keep them home:
-
Feeling feverish and/or having chills –documented temperature of 100.4°F or higher?
-
Has there been any use of fever reducing medication within the last 24 hours?

-
New muscle aches that are not due to another health condition, or that may have been caused by a specific activity (such as physical exercise)?
-
Fatigue (more tired than usual)?
-
Headache?
-
A new loss of taste or smell?
-
Abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea or vomiting?
-

-
Have you had a positive test for the virus that causes COVID-19 disease within the past 10 days?
-
Were you currently tested for COVID-19 because you were sick and are still waiting for the lab results?
-
In the past 14 days, have you had close contact (within about 6 feet for 15 minutes or more) with someone with suspected or confirmed COVID-19?
As a reminder, if your child comes to school with any of these symptoms, they will be isolated in the CARE room and you will be contacted to bring them home. They will need a healthcare provider’s note or proof of a negative COVID 19 test before they can return to school. A Return-to-School form is not needed if your child develops symptoms outside of school and you decide to keep them home.
Students who must remain absent for multiple days for COVID-related reasons will be provided asynchronous activities. Please communicate with us if your child tests positive for COVID and is isolating, or if your child is quarantining by order of the Fairfax County Health Department.
