Administrator Avenue

Dear Bee Family,

We share in your grief, fear, and frustration about the tragedy at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas on Tuesday. These events impact us all in personal ways. One thing we all have in common is our condemnation of these senseless acts of violence.

Another thing we have in common is our commitment to keeping our schools, and the students and employees within them, safe. FCPS and HES work to make critical safety upgrades to our buildings, plan and practice day-to-day safety and security measures, and respond swiftly to any concern or possible event.

We also know that our students need care, support, and understanding as they learn about acts of gun violence. We have that support in place and encourage everyone to use them. Here are a few additional resources for you and your family. Your child may  also have questions and concerns after learning about this tragic news. The National Association of School Psychologists has a helpful resource (in multiple languages) for families and educators to support them when talking with students about school violence. If you or your child need additional support, please reach out to one of our clinical team members, Ms. Bryant, Ms. Correas, Mr. Falkey or Mrs. Wotherspoon.

Student Safety and Wellness

We stand together, as a HES community and in solidarity with the Robb Elementary School community.

As always, we are a team. Please let us know what questions you might have.

Warmly,

Candace J. Hunstad           Elizabeth Baxter             Yaara Crane

PTA News...

Busy Bees

Shining a spotlight on some of our familiar faces, our wonderful admin team: Proud Principal, Mrs. Hunstad and energetic Assistant Principals, Mrs. Baxter and Mrs. Crane.

FIVE FAST FACTS

  1. What is your favorite part of the job?

 - Mrs. Hunstad: The students and people I work with. I love this community.

 - Mrs. Baxter: This community is one of a kind. Seeing the smiles on students' faces, getting their sweet hugs and watching them grow is incredible! The way our staff connects with our students and are always learning to help their students is powerful!

- Mrs. Crane: I love interacting with the kids. They are creative, enthusiastic and fun!

  1. If you didn't work in a school, what do you imagine you might do instead?

- Mrs. Hunstad: Flight attendant. I love to travel.

 - Mrs. Baxter: An athletic trainer for our Washington Commanders (my undergraduate degree was Exercise Science).

 - Mrs. Crane: I always dreamed of being an airplane pilot, but I'm sadly not tall enough.

  1. What is your favorite song?

 - Mrs. Hunstad: Isn't She Lovely by Stevie Wonder.

- Mrs. Baxter: One of my go-to songs is On The Floor by Jennifer Lopez! Such a good beat and makes me want to dance when I hear it!

- Mrs. Crane: The early 2000s speak to me!

  1. What is your favorite children's book?

 - Mrs. Hunstad:  The Monster At The End Of The Book by Grover from Sesame Street.

- Mrs. Baxter: So many to choose from, but the one I always loved to read to students is The Dot.

- Mrs. Crane: Ada Twist, Scientist and the rest of the series are my modern favorites. When I was a kid I could have read the Chronicles of Narnia over and over. I still have the same copies 30 years later.

  1. What is a fun fact about you?

- Mrs. Hunstad:  I'm an only child.

- Mrs. Baxter: My Mom put me in dance when I was three because I was so uncoordinated. I loved it so much that I continued to dance through college and still get to share that passion through teaching at a dance studio where I live.

- Mrs. Crane: I have a fraternal twin sister.
