Principal's Message: 5/27/2022

Good Morning Parents and Families:

You are receiving this message a day early in anticipation of the 3-day Memorial weekend. In honor of Memorial Day weekend, I want to thank and celebrate all of our US military personnel and families who have served or continue to serve to protect our freedom. Wishing you peace and relaxation this holiday weekend.

We closed out our last full week of the 2021-2022 school year, and we only have nine days left of school. I thank you for your continued partnership and support as we make the most of the end-of-the-school year events, where we honor, celebrate and take pride in our student achievements.

While there are so many moments of joy, we also were faced with tremendous sorrow as our country grieves yet again for the students, staff, families and community of Uvalde, Texas. When senseless tragedies like this occur, it can be difficult to have the conversation with our students to offer reassurance, comfort and support. Below, you will find the message I shared with staff and students on the Wednesday morning announcements, as well as some additional resources for you as parents and families.

As many of you are aware, our country is grieving yet again for the senseless loss of innocent lives taken at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, Texas yesterday. Today’s moment of silence is dedicated to the students, staff, families and community members in Texas. Please pause for the moment of silence.

When tragedy and loss of life occurs in our schools, no matter how far away from us, it impacts each of us on a different level. As young students, you have grown up in a time where our nation has been faced with countless challenges, tragedies, moments of despair, uncertainty and often a feeling of “why do things like this continue to happen? While I don’t have the answer to this, I want you to know that none of you should shoulder this on your own.

School should always be a place where you each feel safe to learn and grow. I want to encourage each of you to continue to reach out to a trusted adult if you need something, whether it be a teacher, counselor, administrator, school resource officer, or myself. While this time of year can be joyful as we anticipate the end of the school year, it can also be filled with angst and worry. It is so important we all do our part to ensure we are there for one another in times of need. While there is so much to be concerned about, we must continue to hold on to hope and do what we can to make our school and world a better place to be in.

A gentle reminder as we go through today and the remainder of this year, please be kind and respectful to one another. It sounds like something so small, yet can make such a difference as we navigate the day to day. Look out for one another; turn to a trusted adult if you need something and know that you have individuals in this building who are here to listen and talk through things with you. Thank you for your attention and I look forward to seeing you in the hallways today.

Additional Resources: How to talk to your children

It is always our top priority to maintain safety and security in our school building. The administrative team and school staff are constantly monitoring our grounds to include hallways, classrooms and restrooms throughout the day to ensure students are where they need to be. It is a collective effort, so I will continue to encourage students and parents to share any information they might have as it relates to school safety. Additional information regarding our programs can be found here

Together, we will continue to work together to ensure our students and staff feel safe and are in an environment where they can learn and grow. I thank you for your support; please don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly if you have any questions, concerns or feedback.

There is a lot of information in this week’s message, which celebrates the achievements from the last several weeks & also provides an update to our final two weeks of school.

Have a nice weekend,

After School Activities
A huge shout-out to  Mr. Anderson, our after-school specialist, for providing countless opportunities for our students this last quarter. Mr. Anderson concluded after-school activities with an end-of-the-year BBQ. While there are no more after-school activities, there is one more event for students and families to enjoy on Thursday, June 2 at  Centreville High School for flag football.

Rising 9th Grade Visit Westfield
Last week, our 8th grade students participated in a field trip to Westfield High School for an orientation visit, sponsored by Student Services.  Students were welcomed by the pep band and mascot upon entering then heard advice from current Westfield students on the transition to high school.  Westfield students also led tour groups throughout the school to help our students get familiar with the building.  They even gave us a Westfield Football cup with candy as a departing gift! We had a great time on our visit!
