Franklin MS Weekly Update - May 27

Dear Franklin Families and Students,

As a nation, we continue to process the horrific events that unfolded this week at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. Our hearts continue to be with that community as they grieve an unimaginable loss. Although these events impact us all in personal ways, one thing we all have in common is our condemnation of these senseless acts of violence.

We want you to know that the safety of our school, and the children and staff within it, is our highest priority. In collaboration with FCPS, we are continually working to review, practice, and refine all of our safety and security routines and procedures. The tremendous responsibility and trust that you give us each day when you send your child to Franklin MS is constantly on our minds.

Today, about 12 of our students walked out of our school this morning in response to this week’s events. Students were outside for about 15 minutes before returning to class in an orderly fashion. FCPS respects the rights of our students to engage in a peaceful process and express their opinions through speech and other ways as long as it is done respectfully, does not interfere with the rights of others, and does not disrupt learning in the school.

Please also know that we are here for you if you would like additional support for your child. In addition to all of the resources that were shared by FCPS earlier this week, the National Association of School Psychologists also has a helpful resource to support you when you are talking with your child about school violence.

Thank you for your continued partnership and trust.

Sincerely,

Dustin Wright

Musical Scientists

Grade 8 science students have been creating their own instruments to perform as a band. Each instrument must have at least two tones, and each band must have a variety of instruments. In this project, students are applying what they have learned about sound this year through hands-on learning.
