Congratulations, 6th graders! WSES will miss you!

Willow Springs families,

Congratulations to all of our students, staff, and families! As we complete this final week of school, we want to extend our gratitude to EVERYONE for making this year such a special one. Bound together with compassion and grace, our Willow Family stood beside one another while we navigated numerous challenges throughout the year.

We are beyond proud of our children as they returned to our building, where they built and rebuilt relationships, learning new content, and excelled in many ways. Our children always amaze us with their drive, determination, and resiliency. Our Foxes are leaders, change-makers, innovators, global citizens, and so much more! We are thrilled to watch their growth as they continue their educational journey here at WSES, in FCPS, or wherever their paths may lead.

We celebrated our rising middle school students during our 6th-grade promotion ceremony yesterday morning. Congratulations to our rising 7th graders as we bid them farewell. Our 6th graders have led the way this year, and we look forward to hearing about their accomplishments and future achievements.

We hope everyone has a beautiful and safe summer. We are truly grateful to be a part of the best school in Fairfax County.

Sincerely,

Dylan Taylor, Principal

Lesley Hassen, Assistant Principal

Ipsa Stringer, Assistant Principal

WSES P2 Rock Garden

P2 Rock Garden

All students and staff had the opportunity to participate in building our new WSES Rock Garden, displayed in the front of our building. Every grade level represents a color of our rainbow. Each person identified a Positivity Project character strength they closely connected with and painted their rock. #PositivityInAction

Willow Writers Club

Willow Writers Club

Exciting news! Our Inaugural Willow Writers Anthology was sent to Fox Printing Press and was officially published! It is 58 pages of creative, thoughtful, inspiring writers from both club sessions that met this winter and spring. There’s humor; there’s mystery, there’s poetry, there’s fantasy, there’s memoir, there’s everything! Students chose the title “That’s Write!” and some submitted artwork/illustrations to go with some of the stories. Thank you to Ms. Young for spearheading this opportunity for our children. Click here or the image above to read their stories.

WFCM Food Drive

Food Drive - 6th grade

WSES 6th graders are proud to share that our entire school has donated 1,247 pounds of food to Western Fairfax Christian Ministries as of Tuesday. Wow, this is amazing! This project aims to instill in our students that as good citizens, we can help our community and make an impact.

Rubik's Cube Club

Rubix Cube Club

6th-grade students had a vision and a plan to start a Rubik's Cube Club this year, and they made it happen! Through planning, collaboration, and communication, they provided students with an opportunity to learn a new skill. Thank you to Mr. McLaughlin for sponsoring the Rubik's Cube Club!

4th Grade Living Wax Museum

Wax Museum

4th graders shared their learning as they presented to students and families during the 4th Grade Living Wax Museum. Students created visuals, dressed the part, and even memorized their lines. A fun and engaging WSES tradition!

Free and Reduced-Price Meal Applications/Summer Meals

Families must submit an application and be approved to be eligible for free and reduced price meals for SY 22-23. For the past two years, the federal government has provided no-cost meals to all public school students without the need to complete the annual Free and Reduced-Price Meal application. However, the extension of the no-cost meals benefit to all students is expected to expire at the end of this school year.

We encourage you to submit the Free and Reduced-Price Meal application prior to the first day of the 22-23 school year. The online application will be available later this summer. Watch your email and our website for more information. Learn more about the Free and Reduced-Price Meal program online.

No-cost summer meals will be served at all FCPS summer school locations this year. Please visit the FCPS website for updated information during the summer.

If you have questions about the Free and Reduced-Price Meals program, the additional benefits your child may receive, or no-cost summer meals, please contact on main office at 703-679-6000. We are happy to help.

Medication Pick Up

reminder

The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time on the last day of school. Medication left in the health room after that time will be discarded. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student.

Please Complete FCPS' Family Return to School Survey

FCPS is interested in hearing from parents/caregivers about how the 2021-22 school year has gone for students. You have an opportunity to provide your feedback on our Family Return to School Survey. Please check your email and text messages for the link. The deadline has been extended to Friday, June 17, at 8 p.m.

The survey is being administered by the FCPS Office of Research and Strategic Improvement, which provides objective research and data-based information back to the school division’s leadership. It is part of the office’s continuing evaluation of the pandemic’s impact on our school division.

The survey is available in English, Chinese, Vietnamese, Arabic, Spanish, Korean, and Farsi, and takes about 15 minutes to complete. We encourage all FCPS parents/caregivers to participate and share their experiences whether positive or negative. The information families provide will be used, along with other data, to support FCPS’ efforts to make improvements that support schools, students, and staff, and for ESSER accountability reporting.
