A Message from our Principal

Dear Woodley Hills Family,

As we find out more information concerning the tragedy at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, our emotions and questions change. As a family, we have to continue to work together to comfort and support one another as we manage all the feelings we are having regarding this and so many other senseless acts of violence.

We are very fortunate to live and work in Fairfax County. Our county, state, and federal health, safety, and emergency personnel leaders regularly collaborate to ensure coordinated responses to potential threats at schools and community areas.  Due to their efforts, our crisis and emergency response plans developed by the school division and Fairfax County Police are recognized nationally.  The Woodley Hills staff focuses on our students' safety every day. We are diligent about keeping doors locked and utilizing electronic door access to limit and, at times, eliminate access to the building.  We have regular drills so that our students and staff know the procedures in case of an actual emergency.  Those drills include Fire, Tornado, and Lockdown. Two lockdown drills are conducted each school year in accordance with Virginia law as part of an FCPS comprehensive options-based approach to responding to potentially violent intruders in schools or on school grounds. We hope we never have to implement the procedures; however, we practice so our students and staff know how to respond to emergencies.

Below you will find links for frequently asked questions about safety drills and parent/guardian tips:

Our students are our priority, and as always, we will continue to do all we can to keep them safe.   We also know that we are incredibly fortunate to have a fantastic group of parents to partner with each day.  We must continue to work together to ensure that our children are safe, supported, and learning.  Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or need any additional resources.

Important Immunizations Required For Rising 7th Grade Students

The Code of Virginia requires all students to be immunized against certain communicable diseases prior to entrance into Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS).

Effective July 1, 2021, all students entering 7th grade will be required to receive one dose of each of the following immunizations prior to the beginning of school: Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis booster (Tdap), and Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY).

Seventh grade students cannot begin school in August without proper Tdap and Meningococcal documentation.

Please provide one of the following documents to Woodley Hills Elementary School as soon as possible:

  1. An updated immunization record showing that the student has received the missing immunization(s).
  2. A note on a healthcare provider’s letterhead stating the date the vaccine(s) was given.
  3. A healthcare provider’s written statement of a permanent or temporary medical exemption.
  4. A notarized Religious Exemption Form which is available online at: Certificate of Religious Exemption.

Immunizations are available from your student's healthcare provider or the Fairfax County Health Department. The Health Department clinic locations and hours are available online here or by calling 703-246-2411.

More information about immunization requirements and exemptions can be found in the current version of FCPS Regulation 2101 and on the General Registration Immunization section of the FCPS website.

Virginia law requires that all children who will reach their 5th birthday on or before September 30, 2022, must be enrolled in kindergarten for the 2022-2023 school year, unless the parent or guardian notifies the school in writing that they do not wish the child to attend school until the following year.

If you have a child who will attend kindergarten at Woodley Elementary ES next year, and you have not already registered them, please contact Sandra Guzman 703-799-2000.

Please spread the word to your neighbors who don’t already have a child at Woodley Hills ES. Have neighbors with rising kindergarteners complete the online intake form, call the office at 703-799-2000 or email sguzman@fcps.edu
