Lunch - Renovation Menu

The Cooper kitchen will be renovated this summer, in order to complete the work in time for the new school year, the kitchen will close on Wednesday, May 25th and we will be serving cold meals.

The last day for hot meals was Tuesday, May 24th.

Because lunches will be ordered from a central kitchen, it is helpful to know how many meals to plan for.

Please complete this one question form based on how your student will have lunch for a majority of the remainder of the school year (51% of their remaining lunches at Cooper).

The chart below is the menu. All four options will be available each day. Students' lunch location will not change, only the kitchen will be closed for food prep.

High School Credit Courses

High school credit-bearing courses will be reflected on the middle and high school transcripts. In  accordance with Virginia state regulations, FCPS Regulation 2408 permits parents of students who take a high school credit-bearing course in middle school to request that the grade be omitted from the student's high school transcript and the student not earn high school credit for  the course. Parents must make this request no later than the end of the first nine weeks of the school year following completion of the course. The request to expunge as well as guidelines and the procedures for expunging grades for high school courses taken in middle school can be found  at the following link: https://www.fcps.edu/sites/default/files/media/forms/is104.pdf Contact your student’s counselor with any questions.

Model UN:

Thanks and congratulations to all Model UN team members for their commitment and participation in several competitive conferences this year, both in-person and virtual! Our team grew close in weekly meetings and weekend conferences - especially during our overnight trip to William and Mary to participate in the annual WMIDMUN conference. Members showed consistent growth in their confidence and ability to discuss and debate significant global issues. This was our most consistent, committed group we’ve had, and we’re looking forward to the leadership our rising 8th graders will provide to our new members next year!

WordMasters Challenge:

Cooper Middle School Eighth Graders recently earned Highest Honors in the 2020-2022 WordMasters Challenge™—a national vocabulary competition involving nearly 125,000 students annually. The eighth grade team scored an impressive 181 points out of a possible 200 in the last of three meets this year, placing tenth in the nation.

The eighth graders also placed ninth nationally in the overall competition with a cumulative score of 536 points out of a possible 600.

Competing in the very difficult Gold Division of the WordMasters Challenge™, students at Cooper Middle School who achieved outstanding results in the last meet of the year include eighth graders Caroline Mayer, Samuel Mishulovich, Mia Tripathi and Meredith Yu.

The WordMasters Challenge™ is an exercise in critical thinking that first encourages students to become familiar with a set of interesting new words (considerably harder than grade level), and then challenges them to use those words to complete analogies expressing various kinds of logical relationships.  Working to solve the analogies helps students learn to think both analytically and metaphorically.
