Belvedere News and Announcements

From the Administration

Dear Belvedere Family:

Our hearts go out to the community and the families of the victims of yesterday’s shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. This senseless and horrific event is beyond comprehension. We are heartbroken.

We are committed to keeping our school, and the students and staff within them, safe. FCPS and Belvedere Elementary School work to make critical safety upgrades to our buildings, plan and practice day-to-day safety and security measures, and respond swiftly to any concern or possible event. School doors are locked during the day, and staff is vigilant about who comes to our school. We always put students’ safety first.

We know students may have questions and concerns after learning about this tragic news. Our teachers keep a close eye on the students and address concerns as they arise. They work closely with our school mental health team to ensure students receive any needed guidance. Teachers and counselors will communicate with you should your child need additional support.

The National Association of School Psychologists has a helpful resource for families and educators to support them when talking with students about school violence. If you or your child need additional support, please reach out to our school counselors.

As we gather this evening for the Math and Literacy Carnival, we value the many gifts each one of us brings to our school community. Thank you for trusting us with your child’s education and for your continued support. We love our students and feel so fortunate to partner with you.

We stand together, as Belvedere community and in solidarity with the Robb Elementary School community.

Best regards,

Cecilia Vanderhye, Principal and Kelly Cabezas, Assistant Principal

Field Day on June 2

The end of the school year is sneaking up upon us. We will be having our end of year Field Day celebration on Thursday, June 2. This is our day to celebrate all the growth and success the students had in Physical Education this year.

For Field Day we ask that you send your child with extra clothes to change into for the rest of their day (they will get wet!), a towel (optional), sunscreen, and their water bottle.  Thank you!

For Parent Volunteers

Thank you to all the parents that have signed up to volunteer for Field Day! On Field Day we ask that you come at 30 minutes early if possible (9-9:15 for morning session, 12:30-12:45 for afternoon) so that we can show you your station and explain a few things about it. Please dress comfortably--it is forecasted to be HOT!

Thank you for all your help and support!

Yearbooks are Here!

Pre-ordered Yearbooks have been distributed to students.

If you did not pre-order a yearbook but would like to purchase one, a limited number of copies are now available for purchase in the main office. The cost is $18 ($10 for students on free/reduced lunch).  Please provide exact change or a check payable to "Belvedere PTA."

Ordering School Supplies for Next Year

The PTA is finalizing the supply lists and website for ordering school supplies for students returning to Belvedere for the 2022-2023 school year.  Look for details in this space next week!

From the Library

Like all FCPS schools, Belvedere’s school library books MUST be returned by Friday, May 27. On this date students may no longer borrow books from the school’s library and are encouraged to use their teacher’s classroom library and public library for the final two weeks of school.

During May, all children with late books have been given weekly reminders. If your child needs another look at what they have checked out from the library, they can access their checkouts in the “My Stuff” tab after logging into the library catalog with their FCPS Google credentials. If they cannot find a book looking “everywhere”, they should speak with our librarian, Ms. Jopeck.

Thank you for supporting your child’s love of reading!

5th Grade Promotion Ceremony

The 5th Grade promotion ceremony will be held on Friday, June 10 starting at 10:00 a.m.  Please join us in celebrating as we send our 5th graders off to middle school!

Each 5th grader has been issued 2 tickets for the ceremony. To maintain social distancing during the event, families are limited to 2 guests per 5th grader. There will be no exceptions to this limit.

Please sign in at the main office with you arrive before proceeding to the Gym.  If your child will be leaving after the ceremony, please be sure to check them out in the office.

Free and Reduced-Price Meals Application

Although this school year breakfast and lunch meals are free to all students, we encourage families who believe their children might qualify for free and reduced-priced meals to apply for this program. Qualifying for free and reduced-priced meals has many added benefits, beyond the free meals. For elementary students, these include:

  • Reduced or waived musical instrument rental fee
  • Information about holiday assistance
  • Information about non-FCPS scholarships, classes and other non-FCPS educational related services
  • Pupil placement fees

There are also many other benefits and fee waivers that apply to students in middle school and high school (see this earlier letter from Dr. Brabrand).

Belvedere is a Title I school. A school’s Title I status is calculated based on the percentage of students who qualify for free and reduced-price meals. As a Title I school, Belvedere benefits from grant funds that support many school programs.

To apply for free and reduced-price meals, please go to this website.

We are here to support you. If you need help completing this application, please call the school.  We can help you over the phone or schedule a time for you to come to school and complete the application.

Thank you for considering this important matter.
