Dear Lancer Community,

On Thursday last week, we welcomed our Rising 7th graders to the building. It is such a time of excitement for our new students as they walk the building with their families for the first time. I am reminded again and again of the important role we as middle school educators and families play in each student’s transition from elementary school to secondary school. As we move towards the end of the year and we look to transition our 8th graders to high school and welcome in our newest studnets, please feel free to reach out at any time with any questions. We are here to support you.

I hope that you have a wonderful week and are able to enjoy the upcoming long weekend.

Jim Patrick

The Jump Start program is a nonacademic program that focuses on helping rising 7th graders get to know Longfellow Middle School and the expectations of middle school. Jump Start helps to ensure a smoother transition to middle school by introducing students to staff, peers, school layout, and basic policies before the school year begins. Students will participate in sessions covering topics such as study skills, test taking strategies, time management techniques, schedule reading, learning how to use combination locks and many more. Scavenger hunts, locker relay races, and daily physical education activities will also take place during the sessions.
