Library Books DUE Friday

Oak View reminds all students and families that all library books are due this Friday, May 27! Mrs. Atkins has enjoyed serving the students throughout the year and being an amazing resource of culturally responsive books and collections that our students have greatly enjoyed! Students and families can expect to receive overdue notices for any books not returned by Friday. Your child can find out what books they are missing by looking at their Destiny account. A video on how to do that is here.

Please Donate - Comfort Cases Collection extended through FRIDAY

Oak View and OV PTA invite families to donate to Comfort Cases.

Did you know 700 children enter foster care every day with only a trash bag to hold their belongings. Many enter foster care with nothing more than the clothes they are wearing. Comfort Cases is a non-profit organization headquartered in Rockville, Maryland that provides brand new back packs filled with new and thoughtful personal care items for children entering foster care.

#KidsHelpingKids Your family can make a difference in a child’s life, and offer a little comfort, by donating new items to a Comfort Case.  Here is a list of items still needed that you and your child can purchase for a child entering foster care.

  • Pajamas (Newborn - 3XL)
  • Books
  • Journals

Your child can drop off items at Oak View through – Friday, May 27. A collection bin will be at the front of the school. Here are ways you can donate!

Oak View Health Update

Oak View has continued to monitor and report our daily positive cases. We are again seeing an increase in reported cases as is Fairfax County and other schools.  We thank you for continuing to closely monitor your child for symptoms. Symptoms have mirrored allergy symptoms in many cases and included runny nose, sniffles, sore throat and headache to more severe flu-like symptoms and fevers. We ask that when in doubt, you please test your child and/or keep them home until their symptoms subside. Please notify the Oak View Attendance line and school administration with any positive cases. We will continue to notify families directly of classroom clusters and impacts. We remain committed to our mitigation measures and we appreciate the patience, support, and understanding you have shown throughout this school year as we adjust our response to the pandemic. Together, we have kept our students participating in learning and activities. We look forward to celebrating the end of the school year with everyone.

VaxUp

We continue to encourage everyone to get vaccinated or boosted as soon as they are eligible. COVID-19 vaccination keeps children safely in school and childcare settings, and also while participating in sports, playdates, extracurricular activities, and other group activities. Strong community vaccination rates help keep our schools safe for in-person learning. To learn more about the COVID-19 vaccine, or to find a vaccine provider, visit the Fairfax County Health Department website.

Masking

As a reminder, students may return to school after five days of isolation if they are fever-free for 24 hours (without the use of fever-reducing medication) and symptoms are improving. As recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) individuals should continue to wear a well-fitting mask around others at home and in public for five additional days (day six through day 10) after the end of the five day isolation period. If individuals are unable to wear a mask when around others, they should continue to isolate for a full 10 days at home. While not required, wearing a mask while indoors is still considered an important way to protect yourself and others. Families are encouraged to discuss mask wearing as an additional layered prevention strategy.

Additional recommendations to prevent COVID-19 are available online.

SOL Retakes Continue This Week

Oak View has confirmed our upcoming SOL schedule for all students in Grades 3-6. It is linked here. Please try and avoid appointments on the morning of the scheduled test day, when possible. Thank you in advance for helping your child do their best by reinforcing a good night's sleep and healthy breakfast on test dates. Students will continue their preparations throughout the upcoming spring.

If your child does not feel well, please keep them home! SOL tests can be made up on alternate dates. We want our students to perform their best and to do that, they need to feel their best.

Daily Symptom Check at Home

Oak View thanks families for their continued diligence in keeping your children home if they are sick or displaying any COVID-like symptoms. We know this is an even bigger challenge during allergy season and appreciate your extra care helping determine between allergies and other symptoms. In addition, please note that if you are awaiting test results, please keep your child home - as noted on the screening questionnaire. One of the most important prevention strategies guidelines is screening students daily for any signs of illness prior to leaving home for school. Any student who is ill or presents with COVID-like symptoms is to remain at home. The daily health screening questionnaire and all translated version can be found on our Health and Safety Guidance document at https://www.fcps.edu/return-school/health-and-safety-guidance-document. This document provides the details of the policies and protocols related to COVID-19, and it is continually updated to align with public health guidance as it evolves during the school year. Daily completion of the health screening is done on an honor basis and does not need to be sent to the school. More information is available here.
