Spring Hill ES Panther Press

A Note from Principal Eck

Dear Spring Hill Families,

We are starting to see some of the more summer-like weather as we move further into May with humidity, thunderstorms, and some warmer temperatures. SOL make-up testing continues, and we are planning our end-of-year celebrations and events.

Today our third graders participated in Business Day. Students set up their businesses from which staff and guests were able to buy goods or services. Our young entrepreneurs learned all about economics, marketing, and money. We also enjoyed a live performance from our 3rd – 6th-grade orchestra. Our musicians sounded great. It was a busy and fun day at Spring Hill.

Have a wonderful weekend!

End of Year Student Medication Pickup

The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time (1:35 PM) on the last day of school June 10, 2022.  Medication left in the health room after that time will be discarded.  It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian.  Medication cannot be sent home with your student.  However, with parent or guardian permission, a high school student may transport over-the-counter medications to and from the school health room.

Medication authorization forms for next school year may be obtained from the school or online at https://www.fcps.edu/resources/student-safety-and-wellness/school-health-services.   A medication authorization form is required for any medication, prescription or over-the-counter, to be kept at school.

Questions may be directed to the Spring Hill health room, 703-506-3410, or our PHN Lema Kayer at lkayer1@fcps.edu.

Laptop Collection

It's that time of year! Laptops need to be collected before the end of the school year. ALL laptops and power adapters need to be turned into your child's teacher by Friday, June 3rd. Students will not take laptops home over the last weekend of school. Students may keep their laptop cases to be used again next school year. Please note that items not returned or lost will be billed for the cost to replace them ($472 laptop / $28 power adapter).

Students attending ESY will be able to keep their laptops. If your child falls into this category, please reach out to our TSSPEC, Jose Heredia-Serrano (jlherediaser@fcps.edu), to make an appointment to return the laptop when ESY is finished.

Science Olympiad Information Night

Fourth and fifth-grade parents please join us on May 25th at 7 PM in the cafeteria to hear how your child can be part of this great opportunity.

Summer Registration Updates

If you have student registration materials to submit, please contact Spring Hill Registrar, Young-Joo Kim at ykim1@fcps.edu, or 703-506-3400 by June 1 to set up an appointment.  New student registration will be closed by FCPS after June 10.  Any new registrations received after June 10 will be processed after July 20.

If you are moving or transferring to another FCPS school, please complete this Student’s Intention for the Next School Year form.

FCPS' Family Return to School Survey Is Coming Soon

Now that FCPS has transitioned back to a more typical school experience, the school division is interested in hearing from parents/caregivers about how the school year has gone for their students. You will have an opportunity to provide your feedback on our Family Return to School Survey which will open Tuesday, May 31, and close Friday, June 10.

The survey is being administered by the FCPS Office of Research and Strategic Improvement, which provides objective research and data-based information back to the school division’s leadership. The survey is part of the office’s continuing evaluation of the pandemic’s impact on our school division. We encourage all FCPS parents/caregivers to respond to the survey and share their experiences whether positive or negative. The information you and other families provide will be used, along with other data, to inform FCPS leadership about the return to five days a week of in-person instruction, and support FCPS’ efforts to make improvements that support schools, students, and staff. It will also be included in ESSER III reporting.

Cafeteria Volunteers (1st - 6th Grade Parents)

If you would like to volunteer during lunch, please use this link to sign up. We have 2 slots per lunch session.
