Dear Haycock Families,
As you know, COVID-19 cases have been increasing in Fairfax County and in schools. Here at Haycock, we have seen an increase in cases and continue to encourage everyone to take the steps they feel necessary to stay safe and healthy.
We have been transparent about how the pandemic is impacting Haycock and our students all year. We will continue to share daily COVID-19 notifications whenever there is a confirmed positive case in our school. This information is provided to make our school community aware of the current situation and be able to make informed decisions about how to protect themselves.
We appreciate the patience, support, and understanding you have shown throughout this school year as we adjust our response to the pandemic. Together, we have kept our students participating in learning and activities. We look forward to celebrating the end of the school year with everyone.
With appreciation for your partnership,
Dr. Liz Beaty, Principal embeaty@fcps.edu
Ms. Heather Boyd,AP HABoyd@fcps.edu
Ms. Dana Chen,AP dlchen@fcps.edu

Student Safety at Arrival and Dismissal
If you are picking up your student via car, please come through the Kiss and Ride line. It moves very quickly. Ms. Chen keeps things moving down there! Many people are parking at the FAA site a little bit down the road from the school. This is a dangerous situation for students and families that walk in that direction. We ask you kindly to come through the Kiss and Ride line if you are picking up by car. Thank you.

McLean HS/Senior Graduation Walk at Haycock- May 31
We invite high school seniors who are past students of Haycock Elementary to come back to Haycock in their cap and gown for pictures and a graduation walk around our school on Tuesday, May 31. Seniors should gather at 2:00 in front of the school. We'll take a picture and have our current Haycock students congratulate them as they walk the halls and reminisce about their time at Haycock ES. Congratulations to our 2022 high school graduates!
Parent Input for 2022-23 Class Placements
One of our important tasks is determining class placements for the next school year. Grade level teachers, specialists, and administration work on class placements together. Some other factors that impact student class assignments are new student enrollment and teachers moving to a new grade level.
Haycock families can assist us in determining class placements by sharing your insights about your child with respect to their strengths and challenges. We do not accept requests for specific teachers. We use the information you provide to make the best placement for your child that sets them up for success and for a great school year.
Completion of the form is optional: however, the deadline for any correspondence is May 23, 2022. Complete one form per child.
Intentions for Next School Year
Although next school year is still months away, we are already working on our planning for next year. We ask that if your child is NOT returning to Haycock next year that you complete this form for us as soon as possible.
FCPS' Family Return to School Survey Is Coming Soon
Now that FCPS has transitioned back to a more typical school experience, the school division is interested in hearing from parents/caregivers about how the school year has gone for their students. You will have an opportunity to provide your feedback on our Family Return to School Survey which will open Tuesday, May 31, and close Friday, June 10.
The survey is being administered by the FCPS Office of Research and Strategic Improvement, which provides objective research and data-based information back to the school division’s leadership. The survey is part of the office’s continuing evaluation of the pandemic’s impact on our school division. We encourage all FCPS parents/caregivers to respond to the survey and share their experiences whether positive or negative. The information you and other families provide will be used, along with other data, to inform FCPS leadership about the return to five days a week of in-person instruction, and support FCPS’ efforts to make improvements that support schools, students, and staff. It will also be included in ESSER III reporting.

Mental Health Acceptance Month
May is Mental Health Acceptance Month. “The COVID-19 pandemic has taken a serious toll on the mental health of children in Virginia as young people continue to face physical isolation, ongoing uncertainty, fear, and grief. Even before the pandemic, mental health challenges facing children were of great concern, and COVID-19 has only exacerbated them.” Read more in this news release from the Virginia Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics
