We appreciate the sixth grade students and their families for cleaning up the outdoor classroom! (Photo by Melissa Worthington)
Dear Wakefield Forest Families,
As the end of year approaches there are always amazing people to say farewell to as they start new adventures.
- Katie Warter, kindergarten instructional assistant, is moving to West Virginia.
- Christine Marucchi, third grade teacher, is transitioning to an AART position at Marshall Road ES.
- Cathy Swanton, special education instructional assistant, transitioned to a Food Services position.
- Miriam Pitchford, Parent Liaison, will be spending more time with her granddaughter and working as a FCPS translator.
Kathy Mongeon and Julia Ruskin, who have both supported the Wakefield Forest Office for many years, are retiring this summer. We appreciate their many dedicated years of service to the Wakefield Forest ES community. Being in the office, they were often the first staff members you connected with and helped to provide a warm welcome to our families.

COVID-19 Reminder |
We continue to see impacts from the current COVID surge. Thank you for contacting me directly as soon as possible by email sbprindle@fcps.edu to notify us if your child has tested positive for COVID. If your child has any symptom of illness, the expectation is that they will remain home until symptoms have improved. Students should always be fever free without using medicine for 24 hours prior to returning to school.

Medication in the Health Room |
The school health room would like to remind families that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time on Friday, June 10, the last day of school. Medication left in the health room after that time will be discarded. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student. If you have questions, comments, or concerns please call Health Room Aide Stephanie McNamara at 703-503-2310.

PTA Buddy Program |
Would you like to help welcome new families to Wakefield Forest Elementary School by being part of the Buddy Program for SY2022-2023? What does it mean to be a Buddy Family? This summer we will match you (current WFES families) up with a new student and their family to help answer any questions they may have before starting school. If you can, you will meet in person to give the new student an opportunity to meet a new friend and have a familiar face to help them navigate the ins and out of Wakefield Forest Elementary. You'll also be invited to help welcome new families at New Student Orientation in late August. The buddy program is an easy way to help ensure our new families feel connected and welcomed to WFES.
If you are interested in becoming a Buddy Family, please send an email to Rebecca Gudicello at rebeccagudicello@gmail.com with the name of your student(s) and their grade level for the 2022/2023 school year. Please sign up by July 1, 2022. We hope that you will join us for one of the most rewarding programs at WFES!!
