We are excited to announce that the new outdoor classroom is officially opened for learning! This new space provides flexible seating for students, a whiteboard for teachers to guide learning and display cases to showcase student work and scientific investigation. The space also provides teachers and students new outdoor tools and resources like microscopes, magnify glasses, binoculars, a weather station, and bird feeders.
This new space will allow students a chance to interact with hands on natural and environmental sciences. “Learning outside connects students to nature, helps develop a sense of place, improves health and wellbeing, and improves focus. It also supports all Portrait of a Graduate attributes.” (Quote from FCPS Get2Green).
Join us for Family Market Night this Thursday
- Welcome back! Join us Thursday, May 19, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. for our Weyanoke’s Family Market!
- Weyanoke Elementary School is partnering with the Capital Area Food Bank to offer monthly distributions of nutritious groceries to families of the Weyanoke community, free of charge during the school year.
- This year Family Market Nights will be held outside as a drive-thru market. Walk-up services will be available for families without a car.
- The CAFB will be providing pre-packed boxes/bags of dry goods and produce, one box of each per household.
- This is open to all families who have students at Weyanoke Elementary.
- Help us keep Family Market Night safe! Masks or face coverings are REQUIRED for market participation, and we ask all participants to maintain social distancing by keeping 6 feet or further away from others.
- Household information (no names) and zip code will be needed at each Family Market Night. This information will be given to the Capital Area Food Bank.
- Market days/times may be subject to change, due to the ever-changing health situation. Please keep an eye out for Weyanoke’s News You Choose for market updates, or visit our website https://weyanokees.fcps.edu
