In Virginia there are nearly 5,000 children and youth in foster care, and more than 400 youth are in congregate care such as group homes and residential treatment facilities who need a foster home.
During Foster Care Month and throughout the year, we are grateful to foster parents as they play a vital role in supporting biological parents and helping them enhance their relationship with their children.
We thank foster parents for taking the extraordinary step to open their hearts and homes to children in need of a safe place to call home.
Thank you!

PRS Family Peer Support Partners (FPSPs) are trained parents and caregivers who use their personal experience to offer support for parents and caregivers of youth diagnosed with mental health or substance use. FPSPs understand first-hand the challenges families may experience because they have navigated mental health and substance use systems with their own child. They have been trained to support families like yours. There is no fee to families who reside in Fairfax County and the cities of Fairfax and Falls Church for these services.

As the nationwide infant formula shortage continues due to a temporary shutdown of the plant that manufactures about half of the U.S. supply, local families are impacted, too.
Our Health Department advises that if you have any questions about how to deal with the current baby formula shortage, check with your baby’s physician or healthcare provider, especially if your baby is on a restricted diet or has any medical conditions.
