Principal Message

Dear Marshall Road Families,

The coming weeks are very busy at Marshall Road.  We are determined to finish this school year strong!  We are looking forward to several fun activities this week including our Runathon tomorrow, 60th Anniversary Celebration this Friday and upcoming Field Days. Our 3rd-6th graders have been working hard on their SOL assessments and despite the challenges of the last few years, students are showing us how much they have learned.  We are proud of all our students who have worked so hard this school year.

A few reminders as we plan for the last four weeks of school.  Please make sure to send students to school prepared for the weather.  Students should dress in layers and wear sneakers whenever possible.  This will allow students to enjoy outdoor activities safely.  Also, if it is a sunny day and you know your child will be outside, please apply sunscreen in the morning before school.  Finally, please send your child to school with a water bottle whenever possible.

All students should wear their new runathon t-shirt tomorrow.  We hope you can join us to run, walk or cheer us on.  Thank you to our PTA for organizing this wonderful event.

Have a great week.

PTA Update

Marshall Road’s 11th Annual Runathon is Tomorrow

We are looking forward to great weather and loads of fun at our Runathon tomorrow!  We hope to see many families there either volunteering, running with their students, or cheering.  Please visit our Runathon website for the most up-to-date information.  We will have a daily raffle each day this week for students that have either turned in their Runathon envelope or registered on the Runathon site.  Winners of our prize drawings and top fundraisers will be announced next Monday, May 23.

We hope you will help us meet our goal of raising $25,000 for Marshall Road.  Every contribution helps!  The deadline for contributions is midnight Friday, May 20.  Cash and checks (made out to Marshall Road PTA) can be returned in your student’s Runathon envelope and credit card donations can be made online.  These funds support community events (like our Back-to-School Picnic, International Night, and upcoming MRES 60th Birthday Party), author visits, the school play, classroom grants and supplies, teacher/staff appreciation, scholarships, and more.  This year we are also raising funds to go towards a new outdoor classroom and new school sign!

Come Celebrate Marshall Road’s 60th Birthday

Come help us celebrate Marshall Road's 60th Anniversary on Friday, May 20 from 5:30-7:30 pm!!  School of Rock will provide musical entertainment and we will have a photo booth, a balloon artist, and more.  Food will be available for purchase, including Himalayan Soul Foods, Taqueria Don Sebas, Ben & Jerry's, and PizzaRoni.  Meet on the fields behind the school for a fun evening with the Marshall Road community!  We need a few volunteers to help sell pizza and water, serve cupcakes, and be our Roadrunner mascot.  Sign up here.

Last PTA General Membership Meeting of the School Year

Join us on Wednesday, May 25th at 7:00 pm.  We will have a presentation and discussion on the developments at the Nutley Intersection and new Nutley tunnel and possible impacts for Marshall Road students.  We will also vote on our new Board nominees for the 2022-2023 school year and discuss plans and volunteer opportunities for next year.  We would love your feedback and ideas!!  We are still seeking a candidate for Vice President of Volunteers/Events.  This is a fun position where you will get to work with many of our volunteers.  Anyone interested in serving on the Board should contact Tiffany Epley vicepresident@marshallroadpta.org.  Those interested in learning more about the developments at the Nutley Intersection and advocating for Safe Routes to School for our students can contact Matt Glassman at saferoutes@marshallroadpta.org.
