Primary Literacy Night
We invite you to Timber Lane’s Primary Literacy night on Thursday, May 19th 5:30-7:00pm (Enter through Door 5). This event is intended for Pre-K to 3rd graders, but older students are welcome too! Pizza will be served. We hope to see you there!
Bus transportation will be provided per the following schedule:
- Annandale Rd & James Lee Condo (5PM pickup)
- W Marshall St. & Cavalier (5:10PM pickup)
- Hollywood Rd. & Savannah St (5:20PM pickup)

Inclusive Schools Week
Timber Lane Inclusive Schools Week – Open the Door!
This year Timber Lane is recognizing Inclusive Schools Week (ISW) from May 23-27. ISW is a celebration of our diverse community, a chance to reflect on the differences that make us stronger, and a challenge to envision and enact a more inclusive school environment. We will mark the occasion with a spirit week, optional morning meeting lessons and read alouds, and a schoolwide project linked to our theme of “Open the Door”. Field Day Volunteer Sign-Up Sheet
Timber Lane Elementary School will be hosting Field Day on Wednesday June 1! This will be our first field day in over 2 years and we need your help!! Please review the available slots and click on the button to sign up. Students in grades K-2 will be at field day from 9:00-11:45 and students in grades 3-6 will be at field day from 12:30-3:15. We have 13 Stations planned and would idealy like 2 volunteers at each station to make this event run as smoothly as possible. Thank you in advance for your help!
SY 22-23 Class Placement Parent Input
If your child is returning to Timber Lane next school year, we offer you the opportunity to share any comments you would like regarding class placements. If you know that your family will not be joining us for the 2022-23 school year, please reach out to Ms. Jessel, mejessel@fcps.edu or 703-206-5300 to let us know.
Our staff will be working on tentative class groupings this spring, with classroom assignments finalized in late August. As we make these placements, we consider many factors including individual student information, teacher input, and social relationships. Every class will have a blend of children with diverse needs, personalities, and learning interests. Due to the many factors we must consider in creating classroom placements, including the reassignment of some teachers to a different grade level and the hiring of new teachers, requests for a specific teacher cannot be honored.
If you have information that you believe is pertinent to your child’s placement for next year, please complete the optional Class Placement Input Form by Friday, May 13th for it to be taken into consideration. There is no need to complete the form if you do not have any information you would like us to consider. Thank you.
Timber Lane Courtyard ReVamp
Principal Chiet, Green Team Leader Christy Thompson, and the Timber Lane PTA invite you to assist them in renewing learning areas in the large school courtyard and playground. The May 7 work day has been rescheduled for May 14th. Sign up and join us!
Tasks to be completed:
- Clearing sod for new garden beds,
- Installing raised beds, stepstone pathways, and a small shed,
- Adding mulch to new outdoor classroom space,
- Complete staining of the courtyard pergola and wood benches,
- Planting several shrubs and two small trees, and
- Several small tasks such as fixing the rain barrel, adding discovery boxes, a weather station, new hose reels, and adding a sunshade to the pergola.
Anyone with tools to lend to the effort, please contact Lori Krishnan @614.746.7068. Needed are shovels, garden rakes, garden forks, mulch forks and wheelbarrows. All tools will be labeled on arrival for ease of return to their owners.

Longfellow Rising 7th Grade Open House
Longfellow is excited welcome our newest Lancers to our Rising 7th Grade Open House on May 19 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm!
Visitors will be able to walk the halls of Longfellow and see how our classrooms are set up, check out the cafeteria, hear from some of our student organizations and more! Longfellow administrators and counselors will be on hand to answer questions. There will not be a large-group presentation; this is an ‘Open House’ style event in which students may come with their family at any time during the evening.
