PTA Membership Meeting Tuesday, May 17 at 6:00pm In-Person

Our last PTA membership meeting for the year 2021-22 is on Tuesday, May 17,2022 at 6:00pm at RCMS Library.

PTA Board members for the next academic year 2022-23 will be elected based on recommendations by the nomination committee. We thank Nomination Chair Samatha Bana, along with Hamsa Viswanath and Radha Yellapeddy for interviewing all the interested candidates and nominating the next PTA Board. Please refer to the Nomination committee report below.

2022-23 Nomination Committee Report

Thank you to all the candidates who self-nominated for the 2022-2023 RCMS PTA Board. The pool and caliber of the self-nominations were very strong. The candidate selection process included a review of each candidate’s self-nomination form and a panel interview. The RCMS Nomination Committee unanimously voted and is pleased to nominate the following candidates for 2022-2023 PTA Board positions.

RCMS PTA Board

President: Hari Kalahasti

Vice President of Communications and Events: Pamela Roldan

Vice President of Hospitality: Crystal Williams

Vice President of Fundraising: Tianne Wade

Treasurer: Jennifer Xu

Secretary: Claudia Everett

Board Appointed Positions:

Webmaster: Vidya Jayakumar   (Continued from 2021-22)

Financial Assistant: Open position

The election will be held at the last PTA Membership Meeting, which will be held in person on Tuesday, May 17th at 6 pm in the library.

Please note, the Nominating Committee process is not the only way to be considered for a role on the Executive Committee. Although we did not receive any submissions from candidates considering running "from the floor" at the General Membership Meeting, all should know that members present will be given an opportunity to nominate themselves for an officer position at the meeting.

We encourage all members to plan to attend this very important meeting.

We hope you can join us to help vote in and welcome the 2022-23 Board members.

If you have not yet taken the membership, please visit   https://rcmspta.memberhub.com/store

Principal Stokes and other faculty members will be present for the meeting. Please email Srilekha Reddy, PTA President at Rcmspta.pres@gmail.com if you have any questions.

Reminder: Pick Up Medication by End of School Year

The school health room is reminding parents and guardians that all medication stored in the health room must be picked up no later than the student dismissal time on the last day of school June 10, 2022. Medication left in the health room after that time will be discarded. It is school policy that medications must be picked up by the parent or guardian. Medication cannot be sent home with your student. However, with parent or guardian permission, a high school student may transport over-the-counter medications to and from the school health room.

Safe Student Drop-off

This message is to address trends with morning student drop-off and pick-up. With safety being our priority, please remember to adhere to these RCMS community expectations which allow for a safe and efficient drop-off and pick-up.

  • Please ONLY use the Kiss N Ride loop when dropping off students in the morning. No students should be dropped off in the RCMS parking lot, on McLearen Rd., or on EDS Dr. All locations other than Kiss N Ride place students in unsafe conditions.
  • Additionally, students who participate in after school programs should also be picked-up in the Kiss N Ride loop and not at another school location or location off-campus.

We appreciate your attention to these important procedures.

Sincerely,

The RCMS Administrative Team

Parent

On Reporting Absences

If a student will be absent or arriving late to school, parents or guardians should always report the details of the absence to the RCMS Attendance Office. Teachers do not have access to mark a student excused for an absence, which is why it is imperative that parents contact the attendance office (instead of, or in addition to, the teacher) when their child is absent so we can mark them correctly.

To report an absence, parents have these options:

  1. Use the link to our online attendance form (preferred) from the main page of the RCMS website:
  2. Send an email with full details to: CarsonMiddle.Attendance@fcps.edu, or
  3. Call the attendance line at 703-925-3636 being sure to include the spelling of your student’s last name and reason for the absence.

If your student will be picked up early for an appointment:
Please send them to the front office in the morning with a note stating the time of the dismissal.
Students will be given a pass to leave class and meet parents in the office. Parents should come to entrance #1, to the main office, with a photo ID to pick up their student for early dismissals.

For more information on the attendance policies, please visit the RCMS Attendance page.
