International Night is Back!

Join us from 6:00 -7:30pm on Friday June 3 to celebrate the amazing diversity of Bren Mar Park!  We would love for you to bring art, artifacts, and FOOD from your country/culture/state to share with others and your child can participate in a fashion show to showcase their beautiful clothing from around the world.  Information will be going home soon, so let us know if you would like to be a part of this amazing event!    If you have a student or know of a group who is interested in performing a dance or song at International Night please email our music teacher Ms. Millett at ccmillett@fcps.edu.  We can’t wait to see you!

Lost and Found

Lost and Found is overflowing with items. We will be setting all items out in the front lobby hallway this week, Wednesday-Friday. Please encourage your children to come see if any of their belongings are there. Parents are welcome to stop by and check as well. Any items that are not collected at the end of the week will be donated.

Ways to Help Your Child at Home: Learning Together Over the Summer

Summer vacation will be starting soon, but that doesn’t mean that your child’s learning has to stop.  There are so many fun activities you can do to keep your child learning, even on vacation!

  • Read books in your home language or English with your child on a daily basis and talk about the stories
  • Play rhyming games and sing songs
  • Cook together and talk about ingredients and measurements
  • Encourage your child to write about their day, a book, or a fun topic
  • Take summer field trips (outside or indoors). Go on a hike or watch a video about a nonfiction topic (ex: volcanoes, planets, etc) and talk about it.
  • Expand your child’s vocabulary by teaching him/her new words in any language
  • Visit the public library regularly to check out books and other resources

Specialist Spotlight: Counseling

Our mustangs are learning so much this month! Our older students learned important words this month… Integrity and core values. We learned that it is very important to do the right thing even when nobody is watching. We also talked about how our Core Values are not the same as our friends’ core values, but we learned that even though our values may not be all the same, that we need to respect other people core values. We also talked about Kindness and how hard it can be to be kind to others specially when we are feeling angry or frustrated with someone. We learned strategies for practicing kindness even when we are upset or angry. After talking about kindness, students wrote a kind note to their teachers for teachers appreciation week.

Our little mustangs continue to learn different types of breathing exercises every time we meet. We learned the hot cocoa, the rainbow breathing and much more. We are also learning about the colors or zones of that we all experience. We are taking a deep dive and learning more in depth about the Zones of Regulation. We talked about the red and yellow zone. We are learning about how our body feels when we are feeling “red” and/or “yellow”, we are also reading very fun books about it and then we all talk about what students are able to do to feel better.

Our mustangs are doing great on learning new important words and also learning on how to navigate all these emotions that we all experience.
