Students enjoyed many days of sunshine this week during recess.
Bucknell families,
We had another amazing week of school! Thank you to all of our 6th grade families who joined us this morning for the 6th Grade Family Meeting. Our students were reminded about Bucknell's expectations and had a chance to process the importance of these expectations with their families. We also had a special guest - Dr. Barker, principal of Sandburg Middle School! Families were able to hear more about the transition to middle school and next steps for their children.
As a reminder, we're asking for your input about the learning environment your child will learn best in next year. Please consider providing your input by clicking this link by Monday, May 23rd, so that the information can be processed before class building. This is the last week to click the link and provide input.
As we move into the last month of school, let's continue to take care of ourselves, each other, and Bucknell! We look forward to seeing you at all of our upcoming end of the year events!
Sincerely,
Rashida Green, Principal
Tory Swanson, Assistant Principal

We have missed seeing you in our cafeteria with students during the school day! We would love to have volunteers come and join us during lunch. This is a great opportunity to build relationships with students at Bucknell Elementary, while also seeing your child during the school day. In addition, you will be supporting our cafeteria host and head custodian. You will ensure that students stay in their designated seats while at lunch and that they’re being safe.
If you’re interested in supporting Bucknell by being a volunteer in the cafeteria, please click the link below and sign up for a time slot!

Bucknell PTA invites you to CHALK IT UP! on Tuesday, May 17 after-school, from 5PM until 6PM. All are welcome to this free community event. We will be providing music, a snack and sidewalk chalk to unleash your inner artist on the front walkway of Bucknell ES! All students in attendance must be accompanied by an adult. All attending students and siblings will be entered into a raffle to win a prize. If you are able to add to our sidewalk chalk supplies, please drop any donations to the Parent Center or front office before May 17. We appreciate your support and look forward to sharing what our young artists create!

Your Input Needed: Next Year's Student Placement
It's hard to believe that the end of the year is almost here and that we are already planning for the 22-23 school year. Each year our teachers work together to create classrooms built on the idea that students learn form each others' strengths. This mindset is a driving force as we build heterogenous classrooms that support each child's learning needs.
Again this year, we ask for your input about the learning environment your child will learn best in next year. Please consider providing your input by clicking this link by Monday, May 23rd, so that the information can be processed before class building.
Please note that we do not take direct teacher requests. Instead, we ask that you describe the attributes that will support your child best.

Absences and late arrivals should be reported to the office as classes start promptly at 8:55 a.m.
Bucknell ES front doors open at 8:45 and closes at 8:55AM. A child who arrives to school after 8:55 a.m. is considered tardy. If you know ahead of time that your child is going to be late or absent for the entire day, please call the school attendance line (703-660-2929) before 8:55 a.m. If the school does not receive a call from the family, the absence/tardy will automatically be considered unexcused.
Please call before 3:10 p.m. if you plan to pick up your child early from school. It is imperative that the front office staff has enough time to get the students from their classroom before dismissal begins. It is also helpful if you email your child's teacher so they are aware and able to get the student ready for an early dismissal.
