Dear Haycock Families,
We hope all our Haycock moms had a great Mother's Day last weekend. All our second grade classes enjoyed their field trip to the National Zoo on Tuesday of this week. Our fourth grade classes enjoyed a virtual field trip on Tuesday celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Lincoln Memorial. Finally, our fourth grade classes celebrated and shared their learning with parents and family members last Friday during Virginia History Day.
As we are working on preparations for next school year, we ask that you encourage neighbors to register their students if they have not done so already, especially any rising Kindergarten students. Making sure that all students are registered now allows us to receive the staffing allocations that we know we will need. It takes a village to remind each other and get all our potential students registered and counted for next year!
Across Fairfax County, we are seeing an increase in COVID 19 cases. This is also the case at Haycock. If your student is sick, please keep them home.
With appreciation for your partnership,
Dr. Liz Beaty, Principal embeaty@fcps.edu
Ms. Heather Boyd,AP HABoyd@fcps.edu
Ms. Dana Chen,AP dlchen@fcps.edu

Student Anxiety Signs and Tips for Parents |
McLean HS/Senior Graduation Walk at Haycock- May 31
We invite high school seniors who are past students of Haycock Elementary to come back to Haycock in their cap and gown for pictures and a graduation walk around our school on Tuesday, May 31. Seniors should gather at 2:00 in front of the school. We'll take a picture and have our current Haycock students congratulate them as they walk the halls and reminisce about their time at Haycock ES. Congratulations to our 2022 high school graduates!
Haycock Grounds Closed During the School Day
Please remember that parents and community members are not permitted to be on the playground during school hours unless they are volunteering or assisting with a class. We appreciate your cooperation in order to ensure the safety and security of all our students during the school day.
Message from the McLean HS Student Services Team
Hello Parents,
The McLean High School Department of Student Services would like to share a parenting podcast. The topic is the college admissions process, hosted by Paul Stansbery, Director of Student Services, Kathleen Otal, School Counselor and 2021 Virginia School Counselor of the Year, and Ashley Lowry, Technology Specialist.
We discuss the many fears and anxieties that parents may have about the college admissions process and how parents can set their child up for future success. This episode can benefit parents of students in high school, middle school, and elementary school as they look towards their child’s future. Parents will gain valuable insights from the experts who are in a unique position to view the process from multiple perspectives. You can listen to the podcast here.
During the podcast, we discuss the rumor in parenting circles that it’s “almost impossible” to get into college these days. Watch Kathleen Otal use Naviance to demonstrate how students with B’s, C’s, and even D’s on their transcript still have many college options! You can see that short video here.
Finally, we recommend listening to this Revisionist History podcast, in which the formula for determining college rankings is uncovered. We believe that every parent should be aware of this process!
The McLean Student Services team is here to support students as they find the college that is the right fit for them. We are dedicated to sharing helpful information for parents of students of all ages. We hope that these resources will help to shed light on the process.
Sincerely,
The McLean Student Services Team

Parent Information for 2022-23 Class Placements
One of our important tasks is determining class placements for the next school year. Grade level teachers, specialists, and administration work on class placements together. Some other factors that impact student class assignments are new student enrollment and teachers moving to a new grade level.
Haycock families can assist us in determining class placements by sharing your insights about your child with respect to their strengths and challenges. We do not accept requests for specific teachers. We use the information you provide to make the best placement for your child that sets them up for success and for a great school year.
Completion of the form is optional: however, the deadline for any correspondence is May 23, 2022. Complete one form per child.
Registration Information for New or Returning Students for 2022-23 School Year
