Thank You for Your Thank Yous!

Once again, we start this week’s newsletter with a huge “Thank you!” This time it’s for all the families and students who have shown their appreciation to staff in so many generous and creative ways during this Staff Appreciation Week. We have felt the love!

Special thanks also once again goes to the Lane PTA for their generous gifts and words of thanks, and especially for organizing the delicious staff lunch on Thursday.

Parent Input for Class Placement Next Year

We approach the class-placement process carefully and thoroughly at Lane in order to provide the best environment for students. As part of this process, we seek input from both staff and parents. We know many parents are interested in having a role in their child’s class placement, and we welcome the key information you can offer. After all, you have the best overall knowledge of your children and their unique traits.

Please share your thoughts on the needs of your child by answering the questions on this form. Please follow these guidelines.

  • Share the qualities of a teacher and classroom environment that would best meet your child’s needs.
  • Let us know if you feel that your child should be separated from another student, and we will take that request into consideration. Please remember that best friends do not necessarily belong in the same instructional group.
  • PLEASE DO NOT REQUEST A TEACHER BY NAME OR GENDER. Additionally, please do NOT include negative information about past teachers, as the teachers read these forms when assisting with class assignments. If you do, please know it will be deleted.

Because of enrollment changes over the summer, class assignments will not be finalized until the middle of August 2022. Families will be contacted by the assigned teacher before attending Open House in August.

If you are interested in providing input, please complete the form by May 31, 2022.

End-of-Year Reminders from the Lane Library

It’s hard to believe, but the end of the school year will be here before we know it. Please note that all library books are due on Friday, May 27th.

Your help in locating library materials and returning them would be most appreciated! To help you, weekly emails will be sent to all students who have library items checked out, starting on Wednesday, May 11th. The notice will list everything a student has checked out, regardless of whether it is overdue or not, just as a reminder.

Please note, there are no fines for overdue/late books, so students should not worry if they have had a book for a while (although it will eventually be expected to be returned in good condition). However, families are generally expected to pay the replacement cost for damaged or lost books.

If you have questions or need more information, please don’t hesitate to contact Sue Chozick, Librarian (schozick@fcps.edu).

Thank you for supporting the library!

Patrol Applications for the 2022 – 2023 School Year Now Open; Window Closes Next Thursday

Lane Safety Patrol applications are now open! Any current fourth or fifth grader may apply to be a Safety Patrol. Students must visit this link to apply. Students and parents are encouraged to complete the application together so they are both aware of the requirements, duties, and responsibilities. Applications are due Thursday, May 12th.

Please contact the Patrol Sponsor, Ms. Kurtenbach (Ms. K) with any questions at CLKurtenbach@FCPS.edu.
