Greetings,
As we close out National Teacher Appreciation Week today, I want to convey my gratitude to our FCPS teachers and classroom staff for their tireless dedication to our students. As the daughter of a retired public-school teacher, I witnessed first-hand the hard work and devotion that my father brought to this invaluable profession.
More than 13,000 teachers comprise our FCPS workforce, and they are central to our mission of educating every child, by name and by need. I want to thank them for the work they do every day to instill a love of learning and help every student reach their greatest potential.
As a proud two-generation FCPS family, I remain in awe of the power of our teachers and their work with our students – teaching the strong fundamentals of reading, writing, and math as well as the essential life-long skills of collaboration, communication, and critical thinking. As our incoming Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid recently stated, “Public education is the most important profession in the world because ALL other professions go through public education.”
In honor of the well-known proverb “It Takes a Village To Raise a Child”, I want to encourage FCPS parents and caregivers (if you have not had the opportunity yet) to please reach out and email messages of appreciation to your child’s teacher(s) and to copy the school principal. It is a wonderful way to support our exceptional educators!
In closing, I want to wish a very Happy Mothers’ Day to those who will be celebrating it this weekend!
Best wishes,
Megan
