2022-23 FCPS School Calendar
HES-Eco Club Purple Martin Team
Wins 1st Place in
"Caring for our Watersheds" Competition
Congratulations to these AWESOME eco-bees, the Purple Martin team, who won top prize of $1000 for their project and presentation in Earth Force's Caring for our Watersheds Chesapeake Bay competition.
The project consists of erecting a Purple Martin Tower at two locations- one at Herndon Elementary School, and the other at Lake Frederick, VA. The goal is to attract Purple Martin birds to both of these locations. This 5th grade team from HES competed with MS teams from across the entire Chesapeake Bay Watershed.

HES Staff Treated Like STARS!
 Staff at Herndon ES were treated like stars for Staff Appreciation Week! Thank you to our amazing admin, PTA, families, students, and community for all of the outstanding treats and gestures of appreciation all week long!
Herndon ES Countdown to the End of the School Year
Please join us in a creative countdown to the end of the school year! Students are encouraged to follow the calendar and join in the fun activities for each day until the last day of school. This is purely optional.
The last day of school is June 10th and is a 2 HOUR EARLY DISMISSAL, at 2:05 pm.

SOL Schedule for Grades 3-6
 Students in grades 3-6 are taking their SOLs (Standards of Learning Test) now through the end of May. A good night's sleep, breakfast, and coming to school on time will help our students. Also, please try not to schedule appointments the day of testing.

Kindergarten Registration for the 2022-23 School Year
We're excited to welcome our newest Herndon ES Bees for next year! A child may enter kindergarten for this coming school year if he or she turns five on or before September 30, 2022.
If you have not registered your child, we are scheduling appointments for all rising kindergartners. We have Spanish translators in the office and can arrange for other languages as well.
