spirit

Two of our favorite bakers wear the same t-shirt representing their favorite hobby as part of SGA's Spirit Week.

Dear Churchill Road Families,

It is hard to believe that it is already May and we are closing in on the end of another school year.  We are so grateful to our PTA for celebrating our teachers and staff this week with coffee, sweets, gift cards and a fabulous luncheon.  We truly feel very much appreciated.

Our SGA sponsored a fun spirit week, much to the enjoyment of all the students.  Looking ahead, we are excited about the Bobcat Spring Celebration next Friday, May 13.  There will be music, dance, games -- including a Parent-Staff matchup of "Are You Smarter than a Sixth Grader?"  We hope that you will be able to join us for this fun-filled family event, the first since 2019!

We wish you all a wonderful weekend.

Sincerely,

Cherith Pierson and Jennifer Niccolls

Churchill Road teachers and staff were wowed by the outpouring of appreciation this past week. Parents, students and the PTA went all out with notes of gratitude, cards, and delicious treats of all kinds. Each day was something fabulous, from donuts and coffee to snacks, sweets, a delicious Cinco de Mayo luncheon, and the ever-popular gift card tree, culminating with special Churchill-themed cupcakes. A very special thank you is extended to Shelli Bushman and Christie Buschmann for organizing this week's festivities.

Thank you for supporting the great work of our teachers, assistants and staff through your kindness and generosity.

Cherith Pierson, Jen Niccolls and the entire CRS staff

Save the Date: Meet the Incoming Superintendent at a Virtual Town Hall May 17

Watch your email and upcoming issues of FCPS This Week for more details, including how to register. FCPS Health Updates

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) continues to monitor cases and report COVID-19 outbreaks, as outlined by the Virginia Department of Health. Currently, Fairfax County's Community Level remains low as determined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and our layered prevention strategies are being implemented based on our COVID-19 Community Level, as recommended by the CDC.

However, FCPS has seen a recent increase in COVID-19 cases and outbreaks and parents/legal guardians are reminded of the daily health screening requirement to check their students for mild, cold-like symptoms each day, such as fever, runny nose, cough, or shortness of breath. Parents and guardians are advised to keep their students home if sick and get them tested to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

VaxUp

We continue to encourage everyone to get vaccinated or boosted as soon as they are eligible. COVID-19 vaccination keeps children safely in school and childcare settings, and also while participating in sports, playdates, extracurricular activities, and other group activities. Strong community vaccination rates help keep our schools safe for in-person learning. To learn more about the COVID-19 vaccine, or to find a vaccine provider, visit the Fairfax County Health Department website.

Masking

As a reminder, students may return to school after five days of isolation if they are fever-free for 24 hours (without the use of fever-reducing medication) and symptoms are improving. As recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) individuals should continue to wear a well-fitting mask around others at home and in public for five additional days (day six through day 10) after the end of the five day isolation period. If individuals are unable to wear a mask when around others, they should continue to isolate for a full 10 days at home. While not required, wearing a mask while indoors is still considered an important way to protect yourself and others. Families are encouraged to discuss mask wearing as an additional layered prevention strategy.

Additional recommendations to prevent COVID-19 are available online.

Helping Hungry Kids

The CRS PTA is helping fight food insecurity in our area. From May 9 to May 20, we are collecting non-perishable, shelf-stable food donations. These donations will be assembled into weekend meal bags for Northern Virginia school children who rely on free and reduced-price lunches during the week.

Food Drive: To ensure these bags have all the needed items, we've created a sign-up form for donations, and we've broken down the needed items by grade. Your children can bring your donations to school and drop them in the gray bins located throughout the school from 5/9-5/20 or at the Bobcat Spring Celebration on 5/13. Donations Signup

Meal Bag Assembly: We'll be assembling these weekend bags on 5/24 from 3:30-4:00 p.m., and we're asking any 6th grader who's interested to be part of the assembly teams. Watch your VIP folders for permission slips. Sixth graders MUST have signed permission slips to participate.

Parent Volunteers: We need volunteers to help us make this event work! Want to join your student in the assembly? Join us! Don't have a 6th grader but would love to pitch in? You're also welcome! Volunteer
