This week has been full of great learning and student focused activities including:

• We wish all of the mother and grandmothers in our community a very Happy Mother's Day on Sunday.

Save the Date: Meet the Incoming Superintendent at a Virtual Town Hall May 17

On Tuesday, May 17 at 7 p.m., incoming superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid will join staff, families, and students for a multilingual virtual town hall. Watch your email and upcoming issues of FCPS This Week for more details, including how to register. Dr. Reid will be hosting additional engagement sessions throughout the county after her official start date on July 1.

Dr. Reid held an in-person town hall May 3 that can be viewed on the FCPS YouTube Channel.

RRMS Theatre Presents - "The Giver"

Based on the Newbery Medal winning novel by Lois Lowry, The Giver tells the story of twelve year old Jonas who lives in a community that has committed to Sameness and has eliminated choice from its members in order to avoid conflict.  Jonas finds himself questioning Sameness and the fate of his Community.  Suitable for ages 10 and up.

Showtimes:

• May 5 & 6 at 7:00 pm
• May 7 at 2:00 & 7:00 pm

IMAGINE Summer Learning Program

We are offering an engaging academic summer learning alternative, free of charge, for our students currently enrolled at RRMS in the following courses:

• English 7
• English 8
• Math 7
• PreAlgebra/ Math 7HN

Students will be enrolled in the same content classes in which they are currently participating. Students will spend half of their morning engaged in strengthening English content and the other half in reinforcing their math content skills.

The program will run Monday through Friday on the following dates and times:

Start Date: July 11, 2022

End Date: July 29, 2022

Hours: 7:20 a.m.- 11:20 a.m.

Summer bus transportation offers partial routes. Families are expected to drop off and pick up their students at their closest location if they choose to use bus transportation. Buses will pick up students from the following schools:

• Brookfield ES
• Lees Corner ES
• Greenbriar East ES
• Greenbriar West ES 
• Poplar Tree ES

FCPS Summer Learning

A reminder that FCPS Online Campus Summer Courses are open for registration and available to eligible middle school students who meet prerequisites and technical requirements.  Students may take one online course for first time or repeat credit.  Middle school students may not take a mathematics course during the summer as their first high school level mathematics course.  Courses are rigorous; therefore, students should consult their counselor prior to registering.  Program information is available at Summer Learning. 

7th Grade Only- SY22-23 Course Selections

To see the list of courses that your child selected for eighth grade, please log into your SIS ParentVUE account and click on the Course Requests tab. Students can also view their list of courses on the course request tab in SIS StudentVUE.

Please note the following important items:

• This list is NOT a schedule, but a confirmation of the courses entered into SIS. 
• Elective choices are subject to change based on space, teacher availability, schedule conflicts and academic intervention courses.
• All students have Learning Seminar (Rock Time) and Team Desig 7th. 

Please review this preliminary list of courses and look for the following errors:

• Too few or too many classes
• Absence of a required course
• Inaccurate placement by grade or course level

Expunging High School Credits

High school credit courses taken in grades 7 and 8 become part of the student’s high school transcript and are included in the calculation of the high school Grade Point Average (GPA). VA State and FCPS regulations permit parents/guardians to make a request to have that course expunged from the student’s record.  

Please contact your child's school counselor and submit the completed Request to Expunge High School Courses Taken in Middle School Form.  

8th Grade Only - ACP (Academic & Career Plan)

Each year, your child develops an ACP (Academic and Career Plan) that supports their growth. Your child has been working all year on their ACP in Naviance through various Rock Time lessons. 

Your child’s plan includes:

• Results of the strengths explorer survey (conducted in 7^th grade)
• Results of the career cluster survey (completed in March during RT)  
• Goals (developed on Nov. 9^th/15^th during RT)
• Resume Builder (conducted in 7^th grade)
• Draft course plans for high school (began on Feb 9^th during RT)

SUGGESTED NEXT STEPS:

1. Please view their ACP in Naviance by logging in at https://www.fcps.edu/naviance. Click Student account -> Find "About Me” tab -> then, scroll down to “Portfolio.” Once you click on the Portfolio, you can view all the work that your child has completed. 
2. Once you have reviewed your child’s plan, please complete the Verification Form by June 30. The completion of this form will serve as your signature. Spanish, Korean, Chinese , Arabic, Farsi

• Student/Staff Competitions:  Practice will be on 5/3 (2nd session) and games will be during 1st session on 5/10 and 5/17 (weather dependent) LATE BUSES WILL BE AVAILABLE!

• Chantilly HS Color Guard Clinics at Rocky Run on 5/9 and 5/11 during 2nd and 3rd sessions (3:20-4:30 pm) - sign up form and details are here
• Chantilly HS Girls Summer Basketball Camp (ages 9-14). Click here to see the program flyer and registration information.
• Chantilly HS Girls Basketball - fill out this form if you are interested in playing basketball at Chantilly next year so you can be kept in the loop about off-season workouts, summer camp, and other events.
• Chantilly HS Rising Freshman Football Workouts at Chantilly HS on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 3:10-4:10 pm.  Click here and check out their team page for details.  Students must complete this form in order to participate.
• Chantilly High School Sports Physical Registration.  This will be good for all sports and out-of-season practices for the 2022-2023 school year.
• Centreville HS Rising Freshman Football Interest Meeting at Rocky Run on Monday, 5/16, during 1^st session (2:30-3:15 pm).  Sign up here if you are interested in attending. Check out their website or email Coach Shields (jdshields@fcps.edu) for more program information. 

Science Olympiad Coach needed for 2022-2023 school year!  If you are interested in possibly coaching our after-school Science Olympiad team next school year, please reach out to Shannon Campbell at slcampbell@fcps.edu.

4th Late Bus Day - The FCPS Middle School After-School Program was awarded ESSER grant funding.  A portion of this grant will fund an additional late bus day.  As of April 19, there will be a late bus on Tuesdays for students who are participating in the after-school program.  The bus will depart around 4:45 pm.  Watch the calendar and Schoology for information about activities that will be held on Tuesdays!

VIP Summer Program - If you registered your student, please check your inbox for a News You Choose message from Western Fairfax VIP with acceptance information. 

Program Announcements - all announcements are posted on the After-School group on Schoology.  It's not too late to start attending our clubs!  Any club on the schedule that is not marked with an asterick * is open enrollment, so students are welcome to attend as they are interested and available!
