Floris Friday Message 5/20/22

Holly and Jo

In this Friday Message you will find:

  • Principals' Message
  • Positivity Project
  • School Supply Lists For 2022-2023
  • A Fond Farewell to Some Floris Staff Members
  • Girls on the Run Service Project
  • Upcoming Dates

Floris Families,

We are really starting to see some of the more summer like weather as we move further into May with humidity, thunderstorms and some warmer temperatures. SOL make-up testing continues, and we are planning our end of year celebrations and events.

The May PTA meeting has been rescheduled to next Wednesday, May 25. We hope that you have seen the information about the open positions on the PTA Executive Board and will nominate yourself or someone else that you feel is a great candidate to continue the PTA into the upcoming school year. A strong and active PTA benefits all students.

Just a reminder that we are accepting parent input as part of class placement decisions for the 2022-2023 school year in the Google Form until Friday, June 3, 2022. Please do not request a specific teacher in your information. Teacher requests cannot be guaranteed for multiple reasons.

Have a fabulous weekend!

Jo Gordon, Acting Assistant Principal, jgordon@fcps.edu

Holly Walker, Principal, hjwalker@fcps.edu

Positivity Project

Week of May 23-27 - Leadership

What does Leadership mean? You value each member of your group and inspire people to do their best. This character strength’s focus is on the personal qualities of leaders, rather than the practice of leadership. These qualities include the ability to understand others and inspire them toward a common goal, the capacity to mitigate conflict and mold consensus, and the desire to lead other people.

Why does it matter? For individuals, leadership is a way to achieve what you know is important, as groups of people invariably achieve more than individuals. If you want to achieve your vision for the future, you need to inspire others to join you. A group’s effectiveness and sense of inspiration is tied directly to the leader. Study after study shows that leaders (and managers) have the biggest influence on group success and morale.

Quote of the Week: ”When the world is silent, even one voice becomes powerful...Let us remember: one book, one pen, one child, and one teacher can change the world.” - Malala Yousafzai

GOTR

Girls on the Run Service Project with Ms. de Kramer

The season has wrapped up for the Girls on the Run club. As part of the program, the students pick a community project that they can support. Ms. de Kramer volunteered to work with the girls on beautifying Floris. They helped with picking up trash and weeding in the outdoor classroom. Thank you Ms. de Kramer for supporting the girls to allow them to feel a sense of accomplishment and purpose as they wrap up the season of GOTR, and thanks to our fabulous students for supporting Floris with this project.
