Dear Woodburn Families,
We are overwhelmed by the love and thoughtful acts of appreciation you have shown our teachers this past week. Our PTA provided delicious treats and gifts for us to enjoy. Our daily gift card raffle was also a huge success. All teachers won a gift card because of the generosity of our community. Thank you for making this an extra special week for us.
We received a few gift cards that did not have a family name attached to them. Please email Katy at kjrichman@fcps.edu if you did not receive a thank you card as we want to express our appreciation to all who contributed.
Together We Grow,
Katy and Bridget

New Devices in 2022-2023
We are thrilled to share information about the new devices our primary students will have access to next year. All kindergartners will have access to iPads and new laptops are being provided to our 1st and 2nd grade students. Our 3rd-6th graders received new laptops last year. We are excited to remain one-to-one and have new devices across the school.
2022-2023 Parent Input for Class Placement
We are starting to work on our plans for the 2022-2023 school year! Class placements are an essential component of learning and building community. If you have information that you would like us to consider as we determine placements, please share your input by answering a few questions listed below. We know that a good teacher-student match and a productive mix of children are ingredients for success, and we carefully consider each child’s strengths and needs during this process. Please do not request specific teachers, as this does not take into account the many variables we must take into consideration. It is far more valuable to share particular academic or behavioral information.
Completion of this form is optional. If you would like to provide input, you may use this online form; print, complete and email to Katy Richman (kjrichman@fcps.edu); or a hard copy may be sent to the office by May 20, 2022. This is a hard deadline. Please know that input from forms turned in over the summer are difficult to honor since the grouping process has already started.

Want to feel more connected? Are you looking for ways to get involved at Woodburn and be a part of a thriving community of parents, teachers, staff and community members working to support each other and our students? Join us for the final PTA meeting of the year on Thursday, May 19. From 6:30 we will enjoy pizza and dessert and then from 7:00-8:00 we will elect the PTA Board for next year and celebrate our PTA and community volunteers.
Woodburn Wildcat Fun Run on May 20
We need volunteers for the Wildcat Fun Run
Please sign up here
We invite runners of all abilities to join us on May 20th to run the course in Woodburn’s back field to raise money for the Woodburn PTA. Runners will collect their numbers starting at 5:30 and the *run* will begin at 6:00. The run will be followed by high-fives, medals, water, and popsicles. Pizza will also be available for sale starting at 6:30. It’s sure to be another fun night at Woodburn!
Each Wildcat has a fundraising page set up and fundraising materials can be found by following this link: https://app.99pledges.com/fund/woodburn You can also find it on the PTA website at www.woodburnpta.com.
We realize it’s a few short weeks until the run, so don’t delay! Please reach out to your friends and family to ask for their support.
Each grade will be identified as a team and the grade that raises the most funds will receive an ice cream party. The teams are below.
- K-Bravery
- 1-Enthusiasm
- 2-Kindness
- 3-Purpose
- 4-Gratitude
- 5- Integrity
- 6- Leadership
Please note, while fundraising is appreciated, it is NOT required and all *Wildcats* are welcome and encouraged to participate in this free event. Transportation will be available: picking up at Fairmont Gardens at 5:15 and returning later that evening at about 7:00.
We hope to see you on the field, all laced up, and ready to run! Go Wildcats!
Health & Safety Reminders
Vaccination Status
You may wish to voluntarily share your child’s COVID-19 vaccination information. However, we do not require your child’s vaccination information and no school employee will ask for your child’s vaccination status.
If you would like to provide us with your child’s vaccination status, please bring your child’s COVID-19 vaccination card or a photocopy of the card to Ms. Garcia, our student registrar in the main office.
Monitoring Your Child's Health
Please continue to you use the FCPS health screening questionnaire to monitor your child's health each day. This will support our efforts to keep all students and staff as safe as possible. If your child has Covid-like symptoms at school, you will be asked to pick them up immediately.
Please use the health screening questionnaire to screen your child for Covid-19 symptoms before sending them to school each day.
Where to Find a Pediatric COVID-19 Vaccine
FCPS is encouraging all parents whose children are eligible to get vaccinated. We know that vaccination is the way out of this pandemic, and we are asking you to help us continue to make our schools as safe as they possibly can be.
The Fairfax County Health Department’s webpage has resources for finding and scheduling a vaccine appointment. Up-to-date information about vaccination opportunities is available on the FCPS website.
