Dear Poplar Tree Families,

We had a wonderful week celebrating our staff for Staff Appreciation week! We want to thank our PTA and families for making our staff feel so special. The staff was grateful for the  food, the flowers, the treats, etc. We felt the love! Thank you.

As we look ahead to the 2022-23 school year, we are asking for your input. We value our partnership between home and school and appreciate your thoughts on your child's learning needs.  

If you feel that there is pertinent information to support your child’s success for the upcoming school year, please complete this optional Parent Input Form by Friday, May 20, 2022.

This system is not intended for families to request specific teachers. Requests for specific teachers will not be honored.

Light the Night Campaign Results

Thank you to all of the families who donated to the Light the Night Campaign! We raised a total of $6,220 which goes directly to the Leukemia Lymphoma Society. This is incredible and we couldn’t have done it without your generosity. Third grade was the grade level that donated the most money, so some teachers will complete a dare voted on by the third grade students. It will be taped and aired on the school news show later this month. Ask your student about it—it’s sure to be a lot of fun!

Coming to Northern Virginia

Poplar Tree’s most popular breakfast-food author is coming to our area! Meet Josh Funk in real life at the Bard’s Alley Bookshop on Friday, May 6 at 6pm for a book reading and signing.

This event is not affiliated with Poplar Tree but is a fun opportunity for all Funk Fans!

Grade 4 Math: May 10

Grade 5 Math: May 11

Grade 6 Math: May 17

** students in the AAP program in grades 5 & 6 will take their advanced grade level math tests on the date listed for their current school grade level (e.g. Grade 5 Math AAP students will take the Grade 6 Math SOL on May 11^th).

These activities are sponsored by the Poplar Tree PTA and are operated independently of the Fairfax County School Board, Superintendent and Poplar Tree Elementary.

🌺May 20-22 Auction & May 20 Block Party Volunteer Opportunities🌺

We need your help! Planning is underway for our 2022 Auction! This annual fundraising event assists the PTA in funding various school needs, including but not limited to music and art programs, classroom materials, library author visits, new software technology for our students, staff appreciation opportunities, and so much more. Ways you can help: 

• Send emails (using our pre-crafted template!) to local businesses asking for donations
• Donate your own skills! Do you have a fun hobby or own a local business? If so, please consider donating an item, or your time, to the auction! In years past we have had amazing talent donated by our community including photography sessions, art lessons, beautiful knitted blankets and quilts, handcrafted desserts, landscaping consultations, and many more!!

This year the online auction will take place May 20-22. The auction will kick off with an in-person class basket auction at the Block Party on May 20th.
