Dear Haycock Families,
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all of the wonderful ways that the PTA and parents showed their appreciation for our teachers and staff this week. Gift cards on Monday, breakfast on Tuesday, lunch on Wednesday, and cookies on Thursday- it doesn't get much better than that for our staff! We all appreciated and savored the many and thoughtful things that were done for teachers this week.
We enjoyed our band and strings concerts this week. To have these events in person for the first time in more than two years was so exciting. Thank you to Mr. Frederick, Mr. Zimmerman, and Ms. Parrell (our band staff) as well as Ms. Blitch, Ms. Kelley, Ms. Howell, and Ms. Skeen (our strings teachers). They did a wonderful job preparing our students for the concerts. And hats off to our band and strings students for the hard work and musical learning they have done this year.
Congratulations to the 6th grade Math League team! They were awarded 1st place in the state competition. See here for more details.
It was a busy week. We hope that you and your family enjoy a relaxing weekend. Happy Mother's Day to all the Haycock moms!
With appreciation for your partnership,
Dr. Liz Beaty, Principal embeaty@fcps.edu
Ms.Heather Boyd,AP HABoyd@fcps.edu

COVID Notification Information
We understand that you are receiving a lot of emails from us, and especially if you have students at more than one school. We are required to send out a community notification at the end of each day whenever we have positive COVID cases reported.
When an outbreak occurs in a classroom (3 or more positive cases in a 14 day period), we are required to send a targeted communication to the parents of the students in the class with an outbreak. Additionally, when we have more than one class with an identified outbreak, we have to send a school wide communication notifying families of the multiple outbreaks. If you have not received the targeted communication for your child's class, then your child's class is not a class with an outbreak.
All of these communications are for transparency and so that we can partner with our families. We thank all families that are notifying us of positive cases. Please keep your student home if they are showing any symptoms, even those that seem like allergies. This will help a huge amount.
Parent Event- Monday, May 23 (6:30-7:30)
Please join us in the cafeteria for a parent discussion about student anxiety. Members of our Haycock student services team, our family liaison, and Dr. Jill Priesmeyer, a psychologist from central office, will lead a session on the signs of and tips for dealing with student anxiety. We will also explore some information from the book, How to Raise and Adult by Julie Lythcott-Haims.
Virtual Town Hall with new FCPS Superintendent
Save the Date: Meet the Incoming Superintendent at a Virtual Town Hall May 17
On Tuesday, May 17 at 7 p.m., incoming superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid will join staff, families, and students for a multilingual virtual town hall. Watch your email and upcoming issues of FCPS This Week for more details, including how to register. Dr. Reid will be hosting additional engagement sessions throughout the county after her official start date on July 1.
Dr. Reid held an in-person town hall May 3 that can be viewed on the FCPS YouTube Channel.
Parent Information for 2022-23 Class Placements
One of our important tasks is determining class placements for the next school year. Grade level teachers, specialists, and administration work on class placements together. Some other factors that impact student class assignments are new student enrollment and teachers moving to a new grade level.
Haycock families can assist us in determining class placements by sharing your insights about your child with respect to their strengths and challenges. We do not accept requests for specific teachers. We use the information you provide to make the best placement for your child that sets them up for success and for a great school year.
Completion of the form is optional: however, the deadline for any correspondence is May 23, 2022. Complete one form per child.
May is Jewish American Heritage Month
Longfellow MS Theatre Event
The Longfellow Theater Department would like to invite students to a free dress rehearsal performance of our production of The Wizard of Oz: Youth Edition on Wednesday, May 11th at 4:30 pm. Students must provide their own transportation and be accompanied by an adult. Students will be invited to stay after the production if they wish, to take pictures with the characters, or ask questions about the Longfellow Theater program. For questions about this event, e-mail the director, Sarah Barry, at sebarry@fcps.edu.
