Message from Mrs. Castillo

Inside Out Day

The Spring Fair last weekend was a huge success!  It was so great to see so many families together for this Lemon Road tradition. A big thank you to our incredible PTA for putting that FUN event together for us! The much anticipated Roaring Raffle winners were announced in the news today. Teachers/PTA should be reaching out to parents this weekend if they won.

Today we celebrated April birthdays with Backwards/Inside Out Day!  It was fun to see everyone dressed silly for the day.

The Region 2 Executive Principals visited us on Tuesday!  They had only compliments for the engaging instruction, organized stations, math workshop reflection, differentiated work, and welcoming learning environments for our 1st and 4th graders.  Also this week, several grades also went on Spring Field Trips!  We hope everyone had a great time and a thank you to our parents who chaperoned.

As you may have heard, FCPS transportation has communicated delays for bus routes on Monday.  Parents that have the opportunity to walk, bike, drive, or pair up with a neighbor are encouraged to do so on Monday..

Finally, our Lost & Found is overflowing.  We organized materials for the Spring Fair and will donate items after next week.  If you are missing a sweatshirt, jacket, hat, water bottle or other personal belongings, please stop by next week.

Have a wonderful spring weekend ~ Mrs. Castillo

LRES Reported COVID Case

This letter is to inform you that as of this time, two COVID-19 positive cases have been reported in the past 24 hours at Lemon Road.  FCPS has directed all COVID-19 positive cases to complete their isolation period before returning to school, and our school remains open to other students and staff at this time.

As long as any other students and staff remain symptom-free, they may continue to come to school or work and no further action is required.

If students or staff develop COVID-like illness they should stay home. COVID-19 diagnostic testing for symptomatic students and staff is available at the Fairfax County Health Department (FCHD) or other community locations. For information regarding isolation and quarantine, please visit the FCHD website for guidance

We all play a part in stopping the spread of COVID-19. Based on guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), COVID-19 vaccinations are effective at protecting people from getting seriously ill due to COVID-19. Visit https://www.vaccines.gov to find locations to receive a vaccination. Additional recommendations to prevent COVID-19 are provided here.

Dr. Carolyn Miller's Passing

Dr. Miller

As some of you already heard, Dr. Carolyn Miller (former Principal of Lemon Road Elementary School) passed on Wednesday morning.  Dr. Carolyn Williams Miller made Lemon Road an amazing place of learning for staff and students for 19 years. She always had a smile on her face  and made everyone feel valued. Dr. Miller prided herself with knowing each student’s name and something about them. She valued her relationships with the entire school community and made Lemon Road feel like a family.

Dr. Miller’s legacy will continue to live on at Lemon Road  through the yearly PTA award presented to a staff member that embodies her ” commitment to excellence for all students”.  She was always forward thinking and embraced equity. She made a point that each student receive what they needed to meet their full potential.  Dr. Miller will be truly missed by all those she touched.

Field Day is COMING

Field Day

Another tradition is returning - FIELD DAY!  Lemon Road looks forward to hosting Field Day on Friday, June 3.  Please consider volunteering to run a station either in the morning, afternoon, or both.  Remember to send in your child’s lunch preference for this day.  School lunches are bagged and eaten either outdoors or in the classroom so that all grade levels have a half day Field Day experience.  Volunteer Here:

Isolation Procedure Changes

FCPS will be changing current isolation procedures for students who have tested positive for COVID-19. Beginning May 1, 2022, your child may return to in-person instruction and activities, including athletics, after at least five (5) days of isolation when your child has met the following criteria:

If students are unable to wear a mask when around others, they are to continue to isolate for a full 10 days at home.  Lemon Road continues to offer outdoor lunch and requests that any child returning on days 6 - 10 eat outdoors to minimize time indoors without a mask.  Children who are in isolation will continue to have access to our StreamIn/CheckIn during this time.

Grades 3 - 6 SOL Schedule

SOL

Next week will also be the beginning of SOL testing for our 3rd- 6th grade students. Please reference the schedule above and make sure your child comes to school on time these days, with a good night’s sleep and a can do attitude.  We are proud of all they have learned this year and know these assessments are an opportunity to showcase that hard work this school year.  Lemon Road students will leave their laptops and power cords at school the day before a test to ensure all updates have run and the technology performs optimally for each test.

Class Placement Parent Input

Placement

Determining class placements for the next school year begins each spring and lasts through the summer months. The grade level teachers, specialists, and administrators meet to plan classroom assignments. A variety of factors such as student personalities, friendships, and academic strengths/needs are considered as we create our classes. Lemon Road families can assist us with class placement by sharing their insights about their child specifically using this form.  Rising kindergarten families will receive a more detailed survey in July. Completion of the form is optional: however, the deadline for submission is May 13, 2022. Please complete one form per child.

P2: Leadership

Class

Leadership can be both formal and informal. It is concerned with getting others to do what needs to be done while maintaining group morale to ensure readiness to act in the future. This character strength’s focus is on the personal qualities of leaders, rather than the practice of leadership. These qualities include the ability to understand others and inspire them toward a common goal, the capacity to mitigate conflict and mold consensus, and the desire to lead other people.
