1. Message from Dr. Floyd
Hello Woodson Families!
Happy Friday and opening night for The SpongeBob Musical. Our Seniors will celebrate with friends at Prom on Saturday and on Sunday we hope you are able to spend time with your families to celebrate and remember your moms. Happy Mother’s Day to all our Cavalier moms out there!
I want to extend a HUGE thank you to our families who came through for our Teacher Appreciation Snack Wagon! This was a huge success and greatly appreciated.
Please know it is never too late to send a note to teachers. I am continuously impressed with how our teachers have embraced the changes and the craziness of this year. It has truly been an unbelievable year that our staff have taken on and have done their absolute best to make happen for their students. I’m in awe of how well our team has adapted over and over and has continued to give of themselves for the benefit of our students and families.
It is hard to believe the end of this school year is upon us! The last day of the 2021-2022 year is just 5 short weeks away. Seniors graduate on Tuesday, May 31st and their last day of school is Tuesday, May 24th. For more end of year events, view our upcoming events page on the Woodson website.
Have a restful weekend,
Dr. Floyd
Seniors participated in Celebrate Your Plan Day by sharing their post-graduation plans on May 3rd.

Kudos to Young Sun Huh, Custodian at Woodson HS who has been selected as the Region 5 CARES of the Month winner!
The Woodson Library staff recently recognized the outstanding effort and support Young has brought to the Library service learning, HATS FOR SOME.org. Though teachers and staff will knit or crochet a hat from time to time, Ms. Young Sun Huh has crocheted a hat and donated it to the program on a daily basis. PAST News - but still important
12. No Morning Attendance Calls
In order to accommodate the expanded student testing windows for SOLs and AP tests, morning attendance calls, texts, and e-mails will be suspended during the AP and SOL testing windows for middle and high schools only. Evening attendance notification will continue as normally scheduled. Elementary schools attendance notifications will continue as usual. Note that we are only suspending attendance notifications. Schools will still need to follow standard attendance procedures and record student attendance throughout the testing windows.
Morning attendance notifications will be suspended for High school from April 25th through the last day of school, June 10, 2022.
Additionally, all attendance notifications will be suspended for elementary, middle, and high on the last day of school.
13. Underclass Students - Will You Be Returning to Woodson Next Year?
If you will not be attending Woodson HS this fall, please let Woodson Student Services know now. Please click here and fill out this form. This form was also mailed home with course requests for next year.
If your student intends to attend Woodson next year, there is no need to complete or return the form.
Student Services will make sure all transcripts and records are forwarded to your child’s new school so his/her file is complete. If you have any questions, please contact Woodson registrar Casey Delaney at 703-503-4622 or cdelaney@fcps.edu.

15. Woodson Sports Physical Night
It is that time of the year again! The W.T. Woodson Athletic Training Program’s Sports Physical Night event will be held this year on June 8 @ W.T. Woodson High School. As always, the goal of Sports Physical Night is to provide a complete pre-participation examination screening that will leave student athletes with a valid VHSL physical for the entirety of the 2022-23 School Year. Each year, it is required that all student athletes have a completed VHSL physical on file before participating in sports. The price will be $50 as it has been in previous years. Hosting this event is our Athletic Training Program’s ONLY fundraiser for the year as we DO NOT receive any funding from the county. ALL proceeds go towards helping the program purchase supplies. Without your support we would not be able to provide the services we do for our student-athletes. Appointment times will be available at 5:30, 6:00, 6:30, 7:00, and 7:30pm. Register for an appointment here!
If you cannot make it to our night on the 8th, but still want to support FCPS, feel free to sign up for another school's event! (Promise we won't be mad).
Want to Volunteer??
If you would like to volunteer please feel free to complete the volunteer registration here. As of now, we are still looking for a few more physicians and HCP's to complete the actual physical exams (MD, DO, NP, PA) as well other HCP’s comfortable with taking vital signs. If you are willing and able to donate your time, it is greatly appreciated. If not, and you know of some others that would be able to assist us, please feel free to spread the word!
If you have any questions or would like more information, please feel free to reach out to Chris Hogge, ATC at chogge@fcps.edu .

Please contact Katherine Benzinger or Drew Marvin if you have any questions!
17. How do I check out my student from school?
Please let the Attendance Office know if you need your student to leave school early. You can notify Attendance 3 different ways:
- Submit the online attendance form and have your student pick up their pink checkout pass from the Attendance Office (E107) between classes or during lunch. This form must be submitted at least 30 minutes before check-out time.
- Student brings a note to the Attendance Office before 9:45am. The student will be issued a pink pass to leave class at the appointed time. The note must include the following - student name, date and time of when student is leaving, and reason for early check-out, student ID, parent signature and contact number.
- Call the attendance line, 703-503-4800 and select Option 3. After leaving a message, please have your student pick up their pink checkout pass from the Attendance Office (E107) between classes or during lunch.
At the time of dismissal, your son/daughter will bring the pink check-out pass back to the Attendance Office for verification before meeting you outside.
If returning to school that same day, students must check in at the Attendance office before going back to class, even if it is between classes.
If one of the options above is not followed, we cannot guarantee a speedy checkout, so please make sure you notify the attendance office prior to picking up your son/daughter to ensure you make your appointment or commitment on time.
Due to staff responsibilities at the end of the day, we are not able to honor unannounced early dismissals within 15 minutes of school dismissal.
For full details on Attendance Procedures, please visit the Attendance page on the Woodson website.
