Honoring & Celebrating a True Bailey's Legacy
The Bailey's staff was able to gather to honor and celebrate the late Tess Pardini, one of our former teachers who dedicated over 20 years of her time, love and care to the Bailey's community. Tess touched the lives of her students, families and all her colleagues she worked with. Her love for Bailey's will have a lasting impact through the very generous donations in her name to purchase books for our school library. We are so grateful for Tess, her family and friends!
Dear Bailey’s ES Families,
During the week of May 2nd we will celebrate Staff Appreciation Week. Please take this opportunity to recognize the teachers and staff at Bailey’s for their outstanding work throughout this very different year of learning!! The PTA has shared a list of things you and your child can do every day next week to celebrate our staff and say thank you.
As always, thank you for your continued support of our school. We hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Updated Isolation Procedures for Students Effective May 1
Since the start of the pandemic, Fairfax County Public Schools has regularly reviewed and adjusted our health and safety guidance in alignment with recommendations from local, state and national health experts.
As a result, FCPS will be changing current isolation procedures for students who have tested positive for COVID-19. Beginning May 1, 2022, your child may return to in-person instruction and activities, including athletics, when your child has met the following criteria:
- Student has completed at least five days of isolation; AND
- Student is fever free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication; AND
-
Student’s symptoms have improved or resolved
- Student wears a well-fitting mask for 5 additional days (day six through day 10) after the end of the 5-day isolation period, in accordance with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance
If students are unable to wear a mask when around others, they are to continue to isolate for a full 10 days at home.
Children who are in isolation will continue to have access to our StreamIn/CheckIn during this time.
The new procedure aligns with the timeline recommended by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Virginia Department of Health (VDH) and Fairfax County Health Department (FCHD). It also follows improving vaccination rates in the Fairfax Health District, as well as a continued community level of low in Fairfax County.
We continue to balance the need for students to have a high-quality in-person learning experience with student and staff safety. By adhering to our layered prevention strategies and increasing vaccination rates, we are all doing our part to keep schools safe.
Join us for our In-Person Kindergarten Orientation
We will be hosting an in-person Kindergarten Orientation on May 18th from 5:30-7:00pm. We encourage all parents and their children who will attend Kindergarten at Bailey's ES for the 2022-2023 school year to join us. We look forward to meeting you!

Information from our
P.E. Teachers
Hello families,
From May 2nd through May 13th we will be participating in Biking at Bailey’s with our 1st and second grade students during our PE classes. Kindergarten will be working on something else. Students will learn basic bike safety and how to ride a bike with no training wheels. Students may bring a helmet to wear in PE if they would like, but please do not try to bring bikes to PE class.
All students will ride bikes provided by the school and if they don’t bring a helmet, we’ll provide that too. We do ask that students with long hair wear it in a way that is close to their head, that way the helmets fit correctly. We also ask that no students wear dresses or skirts for this time period. We don’t want loose clothing to get caught in the chains. We can’t wait to train up the next group of bike experts!
While we are the only elementary school in Fairfax County (that we know of) to teach bike riding to kids this young, you can give your student a head-start by following the steps on this video:

Let’s Ride!

Tutor.com
We are pleased to announce that students now have unlimited access to online tutoring support services through Tutor.com at no cost to families. Tutor.com is available 24/7, through online voice or text chat, and in your student’s preferred language. Student participation is optional and parents/guardians can opt their students out of accessing the service. You can learn more about Tutor.com on the Tutor.com Online Tutoring Services website.
Students will be able to access Tutor.com via a link in Schoology. Additional information about how to log in and access a tutor is provided to families via the following instructional videos:
elementary video and secondary video. Questions not answered in the posted resources may be sent to onlinetutoring@fcps.edu.
This new service will help many Bailey’s ES students complete assignments, better understand classroom lessons, and be successful.
Free and Reduced-Price Meals Application
Although this school year breakfast and lunch meals are free to all students, we encourage families who believe their children might qualify for free and reduced-priced meals to apply for this program. Qualifying for free and reduced-priced meals has many added benefits, beyond the free meals. For elementary students, these include:
- Reduced or waived musical instrument rental fee
- Information about holiday assistance
- Information about non-FCPS scholarships, classes and other non-FCPS educational related services
- Pupil placement fees
There are also many other benefits and fee waivers that apply to students in middle school and high school (see this earlier letter from Dr. Brabrand).
Belvedere is a Title I school. A school’s Title I status is calculated based on the percentage of students who qualify for free and reduced-price meals. As a Title I school, Belvedere benefits from grant funds that support many school programs.
To apply for free and reduced-price meals, please go to this website.
We are here to support you. If you need help completing this application, please call the school. We can help you over the phone or schedule a time for you to come to school and complete the application.
Thank you for considering this important matter.
Kiss and Ride Information
Morning K&R Parents:
Bailey’s staff is working to make morning Kiss & Ride drop-off as efficient and fast as possible so all student can arrive to school on time (by 9:00 am).
Please help assist us with this goal by doing/encouraging the following:
1.Once your vehicle has reached the back parking lot for drop off, please have students unbuckled with backpacks, water bottles, and any other items ready.
2.When your vehicle is alongside the school and there is a staff member nearby assisting students, please have your child wait until an adult opens the car door to safely assist them.
Thank you for your support.

Attendance Matters!
- Every year, absences spike in the weeks before and after spring break. It’s time to break that cycle.
- Make sure your child is in school every day, right up until vacation starts. Our teachers will be teaching, and our students will be learning. But it’s harder to teach and it’s harder to learn when too many students are absent.
- If you are unsure whether to send your children to school, consult your doctor or this website for guidance: https://www.fcps.edu/about-fcps/policies-regulations-and-notices/attendance-policies/attendance-when-should-i-send-my. Our school nurse is also a terrific resource for chronic health conditions.
- Do what you can to keep your children healthy. Dress them warmly for the cold weather and make sure they’ve got hats and gloves. Encourage them to wash their hands regularly, and send them to school with a bottle of hand sanitizer.
- Help your child learn to persevere. Today, they learn to overcome a snowdrift. In the future, they will have the grit to triumph over even greater obstacles to their dreams.
