WAKEFIELD FOREST ES WEEKLY MESSAGE

teacher app

Dear Wakefield Forest Families,

As we enter the last six weeks of school, we are excited to be celebrating our amazing teachers and staff. We are grateful to the PTA and our families for recognizing our staff’s hard work.

We also have members of our community celebrating Eid al-Fitr this week. Eid al-Fitr begins at sunset May 2 and marks the end of Ramadan. It is a time of receptions and visits, when friends greet one another, presents are given, new clothes are worn, and the graves of relatives are visited. Eid Mubarek to those in our Muslim community celebrating!

Wakefield Forest was highlighted by WTOP yesterday for our work with Innovation Hour. We love sharing the amazing work of our students and staff. https://wtop.com/fairfax-county/2022/05/how-friday-innovation-hour-at-a-fairfax-co-elementary-school-has-boosted-student-initiative/

We're looking for volunteers to serve as hall monitors for SOL testing for the next couple of weeks.  You will be asked to sit in a hallway, remind students passing through to not talk, and monitor restroom breaks. We'd appreciate any amount of time you can give us.  Any parent of Kindergarten through sixth grade students can volunteer.  Bring a book or work for some quiet time!  Please click here to learn more.

Safety Patrol information for parents of fourth & fifth grade students

The Patrol Application Process will begin next week for students in grades 4 and 5 who are interested in becoming a WFES Safety Patrol for the 2022-2023 school year.  Fifth grade students who are currently serving as a Safety Patrol have an option to apply to be an Officer.  Your child will learn how the application process will work during their regularly scheduled PE Class the week of May 9-13.  WFES Patrol Co-Sponsors and PE Teachers, Ms. Massimo and Ms. Maxwell-Gold, will explain the process to them, help them understand the qualifications to become a Safety Patrol/Officer and will show them how/where to apply.

Listed below are important Patrol application process dates:

Thursday, May 19 – Both Patrol/Officer (5th grade only) applications will be posted in their homeroom teachers Schoology sites.  Please reiterate that being a Safety Patrol/Officer is a yearlong commitment!

Wednesday, May 25 – Applications are due.  Late applications will not be accepted.

Friday, June 3 – Patrol and Officer selections announced (letters will be given to students at the end of the school day)
