Principals' Message

Dear Bonnie Brae School Community,

We had yet another great week of learning and sharing in the success of our Scotties.  Last night we enjoyed a fantastic Family Curriculum night, and we appreciate everyone who was able to attend.  A huge shout out to our many teachers and staff who organized and carried out the event, it was such a great night!

We also want to share some bittersweet news with the community.  Our Administrative Assistant, Heidi Vallejos, who has been such an important part of the Bonnie Brae family for many years, has taken on a new role supporting the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund (ESSER) as an Administrative Assitant in the Superintendent's Office.  We congratulate Ms. Vallejos on her new role, and will miss her here at Bonnie Brae.  Ms. Vallejos' last day at Bonnie Brae will be Friday, May 6.  In the meantime, we are currently in the process of finding a new Administrative Assistant at Bonnie Brae, and look forward to filling this position in the coming weeks.

Have a great weekend!

The past few years have been trying and we have asked our teachers to do more than ever before. We are so lucky to have such an amazing group of teachers in front of our students each day.

The Bonnie Brae PTO is organizing some fun for teachers and If you would like to donate items for the staff breakfast on Tuesday, May 3rd, please visit the Sign-up genius. Thank you for your support of our amazing staff members!

FCPS Cares

One way families can show appreciation to their child's teacher is through the FCPS Cares Program. FCPS Cares is an opportunity for parents, staff, and community members to recognize FCPS employees for going above and beyond to help others and show they care. We invite you to submit your story so we can acknowledge our Bonnie Brae staff members.

Bonnie Brae Class Placement

Thank you for your continued partnership with staff at Bonnie Brae Elementary! We know that a good teacher-student match and a productive mix of children are ingredients for success. We carefully consider each child’s strengths and needs during the class creation process. We encourage family input to share information school staff should be aware of to aid the process of creating classes for the 2022 - 2023 school year. Keep in mind family input is one of multiple pieces of information used to create classes and classes are not finalized until late August. So that your submission can be considered prior to conversations with current staff, please submit your input here no later than Friday, May 13, 2022. Thank you!

Update: Spring Fine Arts Concert

Our Fine Arts Concert has been scheduled for June 1, 2022, from 5:30-8:30pm. This is a slight change from the schedule that was sent out last week. Due to the capacity of our spaces, we need to expand the concert schedule to allow space and time for all performing groups. We truly appreciate your understanding and flexibility.

Please note that fine arts teachers will communicate specific arrival time and meeting location to their students.

We have double checked rosters and we are confident that families will not have multiple children in overlapping chorus performances. That being said, we would like to ensure every family is able to see their children perform. If you notice that your children are in overlapping in the 5th/6th grade chorus groups, please email Jessica Warr (BBES Music Teacher) at jwarr@fcps.edu and we will modify the schedule to make it work for everyone!

More information concerning the concert coming soon from the Fine Arts department. Thank you! - Jessica Warr

Save the Date! SOL Test Dates for Grades 3-6

SOL Testing

SOL testing for Grades 3-6 will occur in May. The dates for each assessment are available on the Bonnie Brae Website. If you have questions about testing please contact Scott Hawk, Assistant Principal.

Yearbook Order Waitlist

If you missed the yearbook deadline, we will have some to purchase when they arrive in late-may. During that entire week, Mrs. Demick will have a table set up in the Lobby during arrival with yearbooks to purchase. While supplies last, yearbooks will be $25, cash only. Students may purchase them as they come into the building. Thank you for supporting BBES!

BBES Lunch Volunteer Opportunity

We are seeking parent volunteers to support our lunch hours. Lunch starts at 10:45am and ends at 1:30pm. As the weather gets nicer we are looking forward to having some of our volunteers support at some of our outdoor learning spaces as well.

If you are interested in supporting any day(s) of the week on a consistent basis during any portion of our lunch block, please contact Kathy Rials, kerials@fcps.edu

Thank you for considering this opportunity to support our students and to continue encouraging safety protocols.
