Woodburn News - April 29, 2022

4-29

Dear Woodburn Families,

We are so proud of our students who performed at last night's spring concert.  A huge thanks to our band, chorus, and strings teachers for their ongoing commitment to fostering a love of music across our school.

Next week brings a chance for us to celebrate our incredible teachers.  The PTA has a fun-filled week planned and we hope that your family will use some of the activities the PTA sent home to recognize your child's teacher.

We are beyond grateful for the gift cards we have received to raffle off next week.  As of today, we have collected 60 gift cards and are so close to having one for each staff member!  It isn't too late to send a card or two in. As always, thank you for your generosity.

Together We Grow,

Katy and Bridget

2022-2023 Parent Input for Class Placement

We are starting to work on our plans for the 2022-2023 school year! Class placements are an essential component of learning and building community. If you have information that you would like us to consider as we determine placements, please share your input by answering a few questions listed below. We know that a good teacher-student match and a productive mix of children are ingredients for success, and we carefully consider each child’s strengths and needs during this process. Please do not request specific teachers, as this does not take into account the many variables we must take into consideration. It is far more valuable to share particular academic or behavioral information.

Completion of this form is optional. If you would like to provide input, you may use this online form; print, complete and email to Katy Richman (kjrichman@fcps.edu); or a hard copy may be sent to the office by May 20, 2022. This is a hard deadline. Please know that input from forms turned in over the summer are difficult to honor since the grouping process has already started.

TONIGHT! Spring Dance – Glow

We hope to see all our wildcats at the dance tonight from 7:00-8:30 pm!  The dance will be outside in the basketball court area.  We are ready to come together and celebrate this unique school year with a DJ, glowsticks, concessions, and lots of dancing.

  • This event is sponsored by the Woodburn PTA and is free for all families to attend.
  • Light concessions will be available for purchase.
  • Due to the outdoor setting, this will be a family night and all children must be accompanied by a parent during the entire event.

To make this event a night to remember, we will need your help! Please think about what type of support you could provide and sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0c44aba62babfe3-spring1

Fun Run on May 20

Calling all runners!  After a short hiatus during the pandemic we are bringing back the Woodburn Wildcat Fun Run.  Runners of all abilities will run the course in Woodburn’s back field to raise money for the Woodburn PTA.  Each grade will be identified as a team and the grade that raises the most funds will receive an ice cream party. The teams are below.

  • K – Bravery
  • 1-Enthusiasm
  • 2-Kindness
  • 3-Purpose
  • 4-Gratitute
  • 5- Integrity
  • 6- Leadership

Runners will collect their numbers starting at 5:30 and the race will begin at 6:00.  The run will be followed by high-fives, medals, water, and popsicles.  Pizza will also be available for sale starting at 6:30. It’s sure to be another fun night at Woodburn. Transportation will be available: picking up at Fairmont Gardens at 5:15 and returning later that evening at 7:00.  Please note, fundraising is not required of our runners and all wildcats are welcome and encouraged to participate in this free event.

Opportunities to Engage with Dr. Reid

Our incoming superintendent, Dr. Michelle Reid, is visiting FCPS next week to learn more about our schools and community. During her visit, there will be a special, in-person event for staff, families, and students on Tuesday, May 3, starting at 7 p.m. More details, including how to register and submit questions, will be shared with you directly via email in the coming days.

On Tuesday, May 17, Dr. Reid will join staff, families, and students for a multilingual virtual town hall, starting at 7 p.m. We will share details about this event in newsletters and directly via email.

Health & Safety Reminders

Vaccination Status

You may wish to voluntarily share your child’s COVID-19 vaccination information. However, we do not require your child’s vaccination information and no school employee will ask for your child’s vaccination status.

If you would like to provide us with your child’s vaccination status, please bring your child’s COVID-19 vaccination card or a photocopy of the card to Ms. Garcia, our student registrar in the main office.

Monitoring Your Child's Health

Please continue to you use the FCPS health screening questionnaire to monitor your child's health each day.  This will support our efforts to keep all students and staff as safe as possible. If your child has Covid-like symptoms at school, you will be asked to pick them up immediately.

Please use the health screening questionnaire to screen your child for Covid-19 symptoms before sending them to school each day.

Where to Find a Pediatric COVID-19 Vaccine

FCPS is encouraging all parents whose children are eligible to get vaccinated. We know that vaccination is the way out of this pandemic, and we are asking you to help us continue to make our schools as safe as they possibly can be.

The Fairfax County Health Department’s webpage has resources for finding and scheduling a vaccine appointment. Up-to-date information about vaccination opportunities is available on the FCPS website.
