Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week

May 2-6 is Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week. We are so thankful for all the hard work our staff do every day to make our school a great place to learn and work!  Please join us in celebrating London Towne's absolutely amazing, creative, and caring educators who inspire our Lions each day!

Some ways to appreciate your classroom teacher and LTES staff are as follows:

  • Write an appreciation note, card, poem, or rhyme and share it with LTES staff
  • Draw a picture of your favorite staff member or draw a design to share

Additionally, our PTA will be hosting an appreciation lunch for LTES staff on Friday, May 6th. If you would like to volunteer during the lunch or bring in some items, please click the links below to sign up.

Standards of Learning Tests

Students in grades 3-6 will take Standards of Learning (SOL) tests beginning next week.  For more information on the Standards of Learning (SOL) standardized test in reading, mathematics, and science, please visit the SOL assessments webpage.

The Virginia Board of Education allows elementary and middle school students who fail the Standards of Learning (SOL) test by a narrow margin to retake the test before the end of the school year.  Retesting is available when a student fails their first attempt with a score of 375-399 (where 400 is passing).

Parent permission is required for any retests in grades 3-8.  If you believe that your student would benefit from a second opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and skills on the SOL test, please complete the Retest Permission Form sent home with your child.  This form must be completed whether you would like your child to retake the test or not.  A decision not to allow retesting will not impact your student’s course grade or academic record.

Information went home to all families last week.  Please contact your child's teacher or our Assistant Principals, Ms. Moore or Ms. Vigil with any questions.

London Towne test dates are as follows:

Thursday | May 5   |  Gr 3-6 Reading SOL

Tuesday  | May 10 |  Gr 3-6 Math SOL

Thursday | May 12 |  Gr 5 Science SOL

Opportunities to Engage with Dr. Reid

Dr. Michelle Reid

During her visit, there will be a special, in-person event for staff, families, and students on Tuesday, May 3, starting at 7 p.m. More details, including how to register and submit questions, will be shared with you directly via email in the coming days.

LTES 6th Grader Selected as a Student Journalist on the FCPS New Superintendent Panel!

One of our 6th graders was selected to be part of a student panel along with middle and high school journalists to meet with the incoming FCPS Superintendent, Dr. Reid. They talked about the importance of student voices and how we can work together to help students succeed. “It'll be important for me to meet with groups of students to hear what you think is important because I'm here to serve you, right?” Dr. Reid told them.  Find out what this group of students wanted to know from Dr. Reid and check out the full interview below!

Updated Isolation Procedures for Students Effective May 1

Since the start of the pandemic, Fairfax County Public Schools has regularly reviewed and adjusted our health and safety guidance in alignment with recommendations from local, state and national health experts.

As a result, FCPS will be changing current isolation procedures for students who have tested positive for COVID-19. Beginning May 1, 2022, your child may return to in-person instruction and activities, including athletics, when your child has met the following criteria:

  • Student has completed at least five days of isolation; AND
  • Student is fever free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication; AND
  • Student’s symptoms have improved or resolved
  • Student wears a well-fitting mask for 5 additional days (day six through day 10) after the end of the 5-day isolation period, in accordance with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance

If students are unable to wear a mask when around others, they are to continue to isolate for a full 10 days at home.

Children who are in isolation will continue to have access to our StreamIn/CheckIn during this time.

The new procedure aligns with the timeline recommended by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Virginia Department of Health (VDH) and Fairfax County Health Department (FCHD). It also follows improving vaccination rates in the Fairfax Health District, as well as a continued community level of low in Fairfax County.

We continue to balance the need for students to have a high-quality in-person learning experience with student and staff safety. By adhering to our layered prevention strategies and increasing vaccination rates, we are all doing our part to keep schools safe.
