Fairfax Academy Community,
We hope many of you were able to attend this weekend’s MCTFest and see all the fantastic work our students and staff put together for the community. A huge shout out to our ASL teachers (Ms. Nesbitt and Ms. Egharevba), our support team (Mrs. Chase, Ms. Holman and Mr. Buckley) and all our parents who volunteered to chaperone the ASL trip to Gallaudet University last week! Next up for our on schedule is the inaugural senior annual dance showcase, EMERGE featuring a collaboration with our American Sign Language program. (Please note that the performance on May 7 will now begin at 1pm. See more details below.)
As we head towards May, we ask that all of our students begin looking for resources and textbooks that need to be returned to the Academy. If you are unsure what your student may need to return, please check with your student’s teacher. We also ask that students complete pre-arranged absence forms for any days they need to miss for end of year testing and that seniors communicate to both their teacher and the Academy office when their last day in attendance will be. If you have any questions about how the end of the year works, please contact the Academy office and we will be happy to support you.

The Fairfax Academy Dance Program presents EMERGE. Dance students will perform dances from many genres for a variety of dances celebrating the return of dance to the stage. A special dance has been created by guest artist Bailey Vincent, a deaf dancer/choreographer. The piece was created with an emphasis on the use of sign language throughout the dance in collaboration with our ASL class. This was made possible through City of Fairfax Schools. This 90-minute performance will showcase the talent, creativity, and artistry of students performing ballet, modern, lyrical, and tap dance styles of dance.

On April 20, 100 of our ASL students toured the campus of Gallaudet University and immersed themselves in the Deaf community.

Pre-arranged absence reminder: With upcoming testing at base schools, we ask that all students complete a pre-arranged absence form before they are absent. Please go to https://fairfaxacademy.fcps.edu/resources/forms for a link to that form. Copies are also available in each of our classrooms and the Academy office.

Last Day of Academy: The last day for Academy shuttles is May 27. All 9th-11th graders are expected to attend through that week. Seniors are expected to attend their Academy class until their final exams begin at their base school. Seniors should notify their teacher of their exam schedules.
