Kindergarten and 1st Grade
Earth Day Concert!
Families of Kindergarteners and 1st graders are invited to watch our Earth Day concert on Friday, April 22nd at 3:00pm. We will be outside on the blacktop. After the concert you are welcome to check your student out and take them home early. Student Intention for SY2022-2023
Complete the "Student's Intention For Next School Year" form ONLY for those students that are NOT coming back to GBE for the 2022-2023 school year. Email it to anunez@fcps.edu or send it in to your child's homeroom teacher by May 20th, 2022.
The "Student's Intention For Next School Year" form is used by FCPS to project each school's total enrollment for the next school year. Questions about filling out this form should be directed to GBE's Student Registrar, Araceli Nunez.
Attendance Matters
- Absences, even if they are excused, can add up to academic trouble. This is as true in kindergarten as it is in high school.
- Children who miss too much school in kindergarten are less likely to read well by third grade. By middle school, absenteeism can predict who will graduate from high school.
- A study of weather-related absences in Massachusetts found that each missed day affected a student’s test scores and grades.
- Please remember that there is no school on Friday, April 1st and Spring Break occurs April 4th -8th. We are eager to welcome your children back in school on April 11th
2022-2023 Kindergarten Survey
We need your help in projecting the Kindergarten enrollment for the 2022-2023 school year. Virginia Law, section 22.1-254, requires that children who will reach their fifth birthday on or before September 30, 2022, must be enrolled in Kindergarten for the 2022-2023 school year unless the parent or guardian notifies the school
in writing that they do not wish the child to attend school until the following year.
If you have a child who will be five years old on or before September 30, 2022, please complete this form and return it no later than April 27, 2022 to our registrar Araceli Nunez anunez@fcps.edu. If any of your neighbors have children who will be eligible for Kindergarten, please share this information with them, as we are especially interested in reaching those in Greenbriar East families who do not have children currently attending school.
The information on this survey will help the school plan for adequate facilities and personnel for the 2022-2023 school year.
