Dear Ravensworth Families,
We have a lot of exciting things going on at Ravensworth Elementary.
On Thursday, April 21 we will recognize our Military Connected Students during a ceremony being held at 8:00 AM at the outdoor classroom. Families were contacted last week via email about the special event.
On Wednesday, April 27 we will have Spring Individual and Class Pictures.
On Friday, April 29 the PTA is hosting its largest fundraising event of the year with our Run for Ravensworth.
We are looking forward to many more fun activities and events this spring.

We are pleased to announce that students now have unlimited access to online tutoring support services through Tutor.com at no cost to families. Tutor.com is available 24/7, through online voice or text chat, and in your student’s preferred language. Student participation is optional, and parents/guardians can opt their students out of accessing the service. You can learn more about Tutor.com on the Tutor.com Online Tutoring Services website.
Students will be able to access Tutor.com via a link in Schoology. Additional information about how to log in and access a tutor is provided to families via the following instructional videos:
elementary video and secondary video. Questions not answered in the posted resources may be sent to onlinetutoring@fcps.edu.
This new service will help many Ravensworth students complete assignments, better understand classroom lessons, and be successful.
Worry and Anxiety in Children and Adolescents: Using Evidence-based Strategies to Help Kids and Caregivers Cope During Tough Times
Join us for this important webinar to help caregivers and families learn strategies to support children during tough times.
Topics include:
- Science and biological roots of anxiety in children
- Identifying an anxious child
- Changing anxious thinking
- Computer technology and the understanding of anxiety
- Current treatment options (medications & CBT: cognitive behavioral therapy)
- Different coping strategies needed for the current pandemic
Presented by Dr. Ramaris E. German, a clinical psychologist in the Neuroscience and Novel Therapeutics Unit of the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH).

It’s important to take the time to say thank you to our school volunteers. Volunteers have only so much time to give and Ravensworth ES gladly accepts any help that you have been able to offer. Your contributions are important and your hard work matters. “Thank you” doesn’t feel like enough, but it truly sums up how we feel about our volunteers! Your support has added to Ravensworth ES in so many ways. We are so very thankful for your time and energy!
Standards of Learning (SOL)
SOLs are coming soon (see schedule below). it is important that your child attend school on these days. If possible, please avoid scheduling trips or appointments that would take your child out of school during this time-period. It is also important that your child have a good night’s rest and a healthy breakfast before testing.

There are three types of goodness in which positive psychology focuses: physical beauty; an exceptional skill or talent; and moral goodness. Appreciation of beauty can generate awe; appreciation of a skill can generate admiration; and appreciation of moral goodness can generate moral elevation. All these feelings (awe, admiration, and moral elevation) help us forget ourselves and find increased joy and meaning in the world.

Volunteers Needed for Spring Picture Day!
We need 2 volunteers for Wednesday, April 27, 2022, for Class Group and Spring Individual Pictures. The volunteers will receive a $14.99 voucher for Lifetouch for half day, and (2) $14.99 vouchers for a full day. You would be helping to direct classes to cameras, check for students wearing jackets, students with crazy hair, etc. Please email president@ravensworthpta.org to volunteer. PTA Executive Board Needs a Secretary & Communications Director for 2022-2023
The PTA Nominating Committee is accepting nominations for positions on the PTA Executive Board for the 2022-2023 school year! We are in need of a secretary and a communications director or team. If you, or someone you know, are interested in volunteering for open board positions, please contact the nominations committee at nominationsravenspta@gmail.com
Current Board Officers are happy to answer any questions & assist getting you started. Our nomination committee will be present at the meeting on Monday, April 11 and we will be taking nominations until May.
Elections will take place at our June meeting. While all positions accept nominations each year per the PTA bylaws, we must have a nomination for secretary. As of right now, we do not have a secretary for next year and we must fill this position in order to have a PTA at Ravensworth.
The job of Secretary involves keeping records of the bylaws, attending monthly meetings, taking notes and minutes at meetings and uploading them to Memberhub, as well as any other tasks that are asked of you to help the board as a team. We work closely together and the work is always delegated evenly, if not done together. Lastly, helping organize events and attending events to help them run smoothly.
Communications Director is the person (or team of people) who put out our weekly PTA newsletter, post to our PTA social media and Memberhub.
If you are interested in helping out in other ways or have new ideas for 2022-2023, please let us know. There are several beloved programs & projects that need volunteers and/or a chairperson. Thank you for considering the gift of your time to keep our Ravensworth community strong! #RavensWorth.
