The PTA held Weyanoke's annual Science Fair last week! We had a turnout of about 60 student scientists sharing their experiments and what they had learned. Our students’ hard work and imaginative designs showed in their displays. Thank you to all who participated!

Weyanoke Spirit Week

This week, the SCA is hosting a Spirit Week in honor of two things: Earth Day and The Month of the Military Child.

Each year our nation designates April as the Month of the Military Child to recognize and thank children from military families for the sacrifices they make living the military lifestyle. We are recognizing military families with some or our activities during this Spirit Week.

This Friday is also Earth Day, and we wrapped some of our spirit days in those themes.

  • Monday was Recycling Day, and students celebrated with a focus on reducing, re-using, and recycling
  • Tuesday was Career Day. Students dressed up for jobs they'd like to have in the future.
  • Wednesday was Purple Up day, and we wore purple in recognition of military connected children.
  • Thursday is Pajama Day
  • Friday is Earth Day, and we will wear green and blue in honor of our planet!

COVID

FCPS COVID-19 Testing Ends April 22

To limit the spread of COVID-19 and to keep schools open safely, Fairfax County Public Schools has been providing a COVID-19 screening and diagnostic testing program to students and staff as part of its layered prevention strategies

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the community level for Fairfax County is currently classified as low; this classification has continued for the past month. In addition, Fairfax Health District COVID-19 Vaccination Status indicates that more than 70% of all Fairfax Health Districts residents have been fully vaccinated (defined by receiving two of a two-dose vaccine or one of a single-dose vaccine) and more than 80% have received one dose. Vaccination rates by age group indicate that more than 50% of students ages 5-11 and more than 90% of students ages 12-17 have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine. COVID-19 vaccinations are free and available at various locations in our community.

Based on these metrics and CDC guidance, FCPS will discontinue the following prevention strategies on April 22:

If students have symptoms and need to get tested, COVID-19 Testing is available at various sites throughout Fairfax County and the state.

While we are encouraged by the continued decline in COVID-19 cases in our community, we are also committed to keeping our schools safe for all to learn and work in person. Please continue to do your part to maintain a healthy learning environment by using layered prevention strategies including hand hygiene, respiratory etiquette, monitoring for illness, and staying home when sick.

Staff Appreciation Week!

May 2nd – 6th

Notes of Thanks for your Teacher

This week a paper HEART was sent home with your student in their Wednesday folder. Please help your student write a short note of thanks to their homeroom teacher, specials teacher, or another staff member at Weyanoke. We will collect these hearts and hang them up in the school during teacher appreciation week.

Please return the heart in your Wednesday folder by next week (April 27)
so your student’s note of thanks can be seen in the hallway.

Make sure the note includes (a) your teacher’s name and (b) your student’s name

The Weyanoke PTA needs your help!

Please help us make Staff Appreciation Week spectacular and show our Weyanoke Staff how special they are and how much we truly appreciate all they do for our students!  The Weyanoke PTA is planning multiple events throughout the week during the school day to show our staff how much we appreciate them.

Make A Donation

Donations can be sent in with students in a sealed envelope with “PTA” written on the envelope or dropped off in the Main Office.  Checks can be made payable to Weyanoke PTA. Donations are due by April 27.

Volunteers

The PTA is also seeking parent volunteers throughout Staff Appreciation Week to ensure all of our events run smoothly.  If you are able to donate some of your time one day during Staff Appreciation Week, please e-mail Jen McCreery@woodchuckpta.vp@gmail.com

As always, THANK YOU for your continued support of our school, staff, and community!

Career Day

We are looking for community & parent volunteers to share what they do with students. Students don’t just learn from their teachers. Community members and leaders can play a vital role in a student’s education.

Last chance to sign up and be a part:
Thursday 4/22

Speak about your career and:

  • Give students a chance to see themselves represented in different career paths
  • Participate and let your child see you involved at their school
  • Network with the other parent and community volunteer presenters!
