We also love any college students who would like to volunteer. Please email Shannon Kamenick at sfkamenick@fcps.edu if you would like to help out.

FCPS Annual Senior Survey

This year’s annual FCPS Senior Survey, which gathers data required by the Virginia Department of Education, will be administered during English class via Naviance Student at the end of April and into early May.  The main  purpose of the survey is to record both post-secondary plans (college, employment, military service, career education, etc.) and the final status of college applications for all FCPS graduating seniors. The survey also collects data on Federal Aid (FAFSA), scholarships offered or awarded, and the amount of scholarship money accepted and using. The survey is how your student indicates to Herndon HS where HHS should mail the student’s final transcript after graduation. Students and parents will receive further information from Mrs. Peirce, College / Career Specialist, via email.

From the Library

You know it’s almost summer when SYNC Audiobooks for Teens returns with free audiobook downloads. Their free season runs from April 28 through mid-August. Two titles are available each week, and change every Thursday. Once you’ve downloaded a title, it’s yours to keep forever. Find all of the details here.

Students can log in to Destiny (using their school Google account) to search for books, put books on hold, see what they have checked out, and renew their books. MackinVIA (linked through Destiny or available as an app) offers hundreds of popular ebooks and e-audiobooks that students can check out 7 days a week/ 24 hours a day. We love to make recommendations based on student interests.

As the end of the school year approaches, please keep the following due dates in mind. Seniors should return all library books by Monday, May 16. All other students should return their materials by Friday, May 27. Information about summer checkout for 9th – 11th graders will be posted on Schoology soon.  Students will need to have a clear account to check books out for the summer.

Did you know the library is open late several days a week? On Mondays we are open till 3:30, and on Wednesdays and Thursdays we’re open till after the late buses depart. If your student would like to enjoy the library later than our posted hours, please have them talk with us.

Sports Physicals

Herndon High School will be hosting their Sports Physicals on Monday, May 2nd. For the first time ever, it is guaranteed that we will not have any games that night- so take advantage and cross this off your to do list for next year!

The current physicals on file expire on June 30th, a new physical is needed for next year. After June 30th, students will not be permitted to participate in any team related activities (other than interest meetings) until a new physical has been submitted. You are always welcome to get a sports physical through your family physician or an urgent care center, but this event is our Athletic Training Program’s only fundraiser. We receive NO FUNDING from the county or from game ticket sales- this event is how we raise money to purchase medical supplies (bandages, gauze, tape, crutches, splints, etc.) that we use for all the sports teams for the entire school year. We provide a comprehensive physical evaluation with several stations including height, weight, blood pressure, vision screening, and orthopedic and postural evaluations performed by Athletic Trainers, Nurses, EMTs and Physical Therapists. The money earned is used to purchase the supplies that allow us to help our student-athletes stay healthy and play to their highest potential. Without your support we would not be able to provide the services we do for our student-athletes.

We thank you for your continued support of our program and look forward to seeing you on the May 2nd!
