Calling All Parents!!!
We are looking for practitioners (MDs, DOs, LNPs, and PAs) that are interested in volunteering for our annual Physical Night event! We need individuals willing and able to sign off on a student’s readiness to participate in athletics. If you’ve never seen how this event works, it has a production line-like setup. Students first complete a multi-station screening process which includes anthropometric measurements, blood pressure/pulse and vision (these stations are typically supervised by ATs, RNs, EMTs and PTs). Once the initial screening stations are complete, the student proceeds to the exam station where an MD, DO, LNP or PA will review their medical history as well as the results of the previously completed stations before conducting any medical/musculoskeletal evaluations deemed necessary to sign off on the student’s medical eligibility status.
This event serves as our main source of fundraising to replenish sports medicine supplies for the year and offer our athletes the best possible care. If you are an MD, DO, LNP, or PA, please consider donating your time and expertise to support a key component of Lake Braddock’s Athletic Training Program. We understand that health and safety are still a concern, so if there are any suggestions/stipulations you may have to make this work, don’t hesitate to share. We are willing to accommodate as best we can! If you know a practitioner who could help us out, please pass along this message and the signup link below!!

Save the Date for our Annual Sports Physical Night!
Mark your calendars, because our annual Sports Physical Night is BACK! Each year, the Athletic Training Program organizes a fundraising event where rising 9th-12th grade student-athletes can get their physicals done in advance of the following school year. Each student filters through an assembly line-like setup, where they get all vitals and measurements checked before seeing the doctor for a thorough physical exam. We then hold on to the physical for the following school year, which should give parents some peace of mind knowing it won’t get misplaced. Last year we joined forces with West Springfield and South County for the first time, and we intend to run it back this June! While there were some inevitable hiccups at our last event, we’ve identified what could be done better and we’re confident the night will run smoothly for all involved this time around. Keep your eyes peeled for sign-up information, once it’s made available to the public sometime in April!
Please consider signing your student up for this event, as these funds go directly into providing the best possible care for our student-athletes! While we’ve made some significant strides this year with fundraising (thank you boosters and families who have already contributed so much!), there are still some much needed updates we would love to offer our Bruins! For full transparency, please feel free to reach out to our Athletic Trainers, Kristyn Wharton (kwharton@fcps.edu) and Brittany Arndt (blarndt@fcps.edu), to discuss current conditions and future plans of updating the Athletic Training Room.
The Bruins 2021-2022 Digital Sports Program is live and updated for Winter Sports! Check out team rosters, athletics sponsors, and team photos! Need to find the program quickly when you are at a game? The link is always at the top of LakeBraddockBruins.com!
This Tuesday, March 1, state legislation goes into effect that allows parents/guardians to elect for their children to not wear a mask in schools. As a school division, we continue to be concerned about the health of our Fairfax community and strongly recommend that all students continue to participate in universal masking for the protection of students and staff with health concerns. However, masks will no longer be required while indoors or on buses.
