Haycock Hello 4.22.22

purple

Dear Haycock Families,

It is hard to believe that we are well into fourth quarter.  The end of the year and our 6th grade promotion ceremony will be here before we know it.  For our 6th grade families, please save Friday, June 10 at 10:00 and make sure you can join us in the gym.  We have begun our planning for this annual Haycock tradition.

This week, we enjoyed hearing about the research that our first graders did.  Some of them created Google Sites, some created posters, and some created brochures.  All of them demonstrated their deep learning on a topic that interested them.

The second grade put on their Wax Museum this week. It was awesome to see our second graders immerse themselves in the important person they studied.  Again, in many different ways, our second graders demonstrated deep learning about a person they were interested in learning about.

We have begun planning for a parent event on May 23 about student anxiety.  We will explore signs of anxiety and tips for minimizing anxiety for our students.  Please watch the Haycock Hello over the next few weeks for details about this helpful event.

Finally, we are in the planning stages for creating a Maker Space at Haycock.  Thanks to Ms. Rowena Enatsky, one of our 3rd grade parents, a few of us were able to visit the Virginia Tech Think-a-bit Lab to help us begin to envision what a Maker Space could look like at Haycock.

It was another busy week of learning and creative thinking at Haycock!

With appreciation for your partnership,

Dr. Liz Beaty, Principal  embeaty@fcps.edu

Ms. Heather Boyd,AP  HABoyd@fcps.edu

Ms. Dana Chen, AP  dlchen@fcps.edu

Reminder about Livestreaming of Instruction

We are providing livestreaming of the language arts and math focus lessons for students who are at home isolating because they are positive for COVID.  That is the only situation in which we are providing livestreaming of instruction.

Additionally, when a family reports that a students is positive for COVID, we aim to get the livestreaming up and running as soon as possible and no later than on the third day after we are notified of a positive case.  Thank you for your understanding and patience as we support our students during COVID absences.
