1. Message from Dr. Floyd
Good afternoon, Woodson Families!
We loved honoring our military students and their families with a spirit week this week. We are so grateful for the sacrifices you all make as a family for our country.
There is a lot of information in today's Woodson Weekly and I want to highlight a few of them for you.
- Report cards were distributed yesterday during 7th period.
- AP Testing begins Monday, May 2nd. If a student wishes to be excused from their other classes the day of an AP Exam, an AP Testing – Excused Absence form must be completed and submitted to the Attendance Office or Student Services by 3:00pm Monday, April 25th. Items #3 and #4.
-
Course Requests for the 2022-2023 school year were mailed home. Please review these carefully and contact your students' counselor if you notice any errors. Items #7 and #8.
-
Senior Prom will be on Saturday, May 7th. This is a wonderful event for our seniors. For all the details, see item #10.
I hope you can enjoy some time outside this weekend now that the weather is getting sunnier and warmer.
Dr. Floyd

2. 3rd Quarter Report Cards
Report cards for 3rd Quarter were distributed to students during 7th period on Thursday, April 21st.
If your student has an off-campus waiver or Academy class for 7th period, their report card is in the Student Services office for pickup.
3. AP Testing begins May 2nd
AP Testing begins Monday, May 2nd. Here are a few reminders:
- All students taking AM tests will meet at 7:30 a.m. in Cafeteria A. Students taking PM tests this week will meet at 11:30 a.m. in the Auditorium Lobby or near Door 7 for Cav Hall.
- Students should eat before arriving for the test. Students who have 2 tests in one day need to bring a quick lunch to eat between the exams. All students are encouraged to bring a snack to place on a table in the exam room but may not have any food or drink while testing.
- No electronic devices of any kind are allowed in the testing room (unless the test allows for an approved calculator).
- Students need to bring two #2 pencils and a blue/black pen to your exam. No mechanical pencils, highlighters or colored pens are allowed.
- Please contact the AP teacher if you have any other questions.
4. AP Exam Attendance Procedures
Students taking an AP Exam will be marked TST during the exam time.
If a student wishes to be excused from their other classes the day of an AP Exam, an AP Testing – Excused Absence form must be completed and submitted to the Attendance Office or Student Services by 3:00PM Monday, April 25th. These green forms can be picked up in Student Services or the Attendance Office.
Due to the volume of work the attendance office has on a daily basis, this form is the only way to request late arrivals and early releases for AP testing: emails and phone calls can NOT be accepted. Also, because of the time required to input this data for hundreds of requests, it is important the form is turned in by Monday, April 25th. Any form received after the deadline will be processed when time allows which may be after a student’s exam which would impact the daily callout messages.
Amazing Senior artwork on display this week.
5. Spring SOL Testing
Students will be taking Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) End-of-Course (EOC) assessments between May 13 and May 20, 2022. All SOL assessments are taken in-person at school.
Friday, May 13th – Chemistry, Geosystems, World History 2, USVA History Monday, May 16th – English Reading Wednesday, May 18th – Geometry Thursday, May 19th – Algebra 1, Algebra 2 Friday, May 20th – Biology
Teachers will communicate specific testing details to students based on their individual assessment needs. If you become aware of an unavoidable conflict that could result in your student missing a testing day, please notify Woodson’s Assessment Coach, Kathleen Guinee (kpguinee@fcps.edu).
If you have questions about SOL testing, please contact your student’s school counselor or Woodson's Assessment Coach, Kathleen Guinee at kpguinee@fcps.edu.
6. SOL Season - Personal Electronic Devices are Prohibited
As SOL season is approaching, we want to remind families that electronic personal devices of any kind (phones, watches, etc.) are prohibited inside the SOL testing environment.
Please be aware that any personal devices carried into the testing environment will be subject to the school’s established procedures for addressing this as a test security concern. In past instances, a student’s access to a personal device in the testing environment has been identified as attempted cheating, please don’t let this happen to you!
Let’s work together to create a positive and safe testing environment for everyone.
For the full testing schedule, please visit the Woodson Testing Calendar site.
7. Course Requests Mailed Home
All students have had an opportunity to complete academic advising for the 2022-2023 school year. Staffing for next year’s courses is dependent on student course selections.
We mailed home a copy of your child’s course requests for next year to ensure that we have accurate course enrollment numbers. Courses listed are as of April 1st, as March 31st was the deadline to request any changes for next year. Please review the course requests selected carefully, and contact your child’s counselor ASAP if there are any errors. Course requests can always be viewed online in SIS ParentVUE or StudentVUE (click “Course Request” on the menu on the left hand side).
If there are no errors on your child’s course request list then you do not need to contact the counselor. If your child applied for an Academy class, he/she should have received an email from the Academy to their FCPSschools account notifying them of whether they were accepted or not. If accepted, the academy class will be added to your child’s course request list in the coming days (but may not be reflected on the list that was mailed home). If you have any questions, please contact your child’s counselor.
8. Underclass Students - Will You Be Returning to Woodson Next Year?
If you will not be attending Woodson HS this fall, please let Woodson Student Services know now. Please click here and fill out this form. This form was also mailed home with course requests for next year.
If your student intends to attend Woodson next year, there is no need to complete or return the form.
Student Services will make sure all transcripts and records are forwarded to your child’s new school so his/her file is complete. If you have any questions, please contact Woodson registrar Casey Delaney at 703-503-4622 or cdelaney@fcps.edu.
9. Yoga Teacher Needed
Hey Day is Tuesday, May 3rd. The Leadership class is looking for a few parents who are willing to come to school and lead a yoga session during the festivities.
The session will be held on the football field, starting around 10:00 a.m. If you’re interested in leading a session, please contact Lynn Schmauder at plschmauder@fcps.edu.
Thank you for your support.
10. Senior Prom - Tix and Details

15. FanQuest on April 30th!
FanQuest has been rescheduled to Saturday, April 30th at Woodson HS. Come out and watch Woodson’s Special Olympics Unified Basketball team play Robinson Secondary School!
Unified is a model of Special Olympics where student athletes with disabilities and their same-aged peers play alongside one another on one unified team. This differs from Special Olympics because that model only has athletes with disabilities. With the support from our Woodson Buddies and Partnership class, Woodson HS has a strong Unified team and we participate in Soccer, Basketball and Track and Field. FanQuest is the culminating event for both Special Olympics and Unified Basketball.

22. Woodson Sports Physical Night
It is that time of the year again! The W.T. Woodson Athletic Training Program’s Sports Physical Night event will be held this year on June 8 @ W.T. Woodson High School. As always, the goal of Sports Physical Night is to provide a complete pre-participation examination screening that will leave student athletes with a valid VHSL physical for the entirety of the 2022-23 School Year. Each year, it is required that all student athletes have a completed VHSL physical on file before participating in sports. The price will be $50 as it has been in previous years. Hosting this event is our Athletic Training Program’s ONLY fundraiser for the year as we DO NOT receive any funding from the county. ALL proceeds go towards helping the program purchase supplies. Without your support we would not be able to provide the services we do for our student-athletes. Appointment times will be available at 5:30, 6:00, 6:30, 7:00, and 7:30pm. Register for an appointment here!
If you cannot make it to our night on the 8th, but still want to support FCPS, feel free to sign up for another school's event! (Promise we won't be mad).
Want to Volunteer??
If you would like to volunteer please feel free to complete the volunteer registration here. As of now, we are still looking for a few more physicians and HCP's to complete the actual physical exams (MD, DO, NP, PA) as well other HCP’s comfortable with taking vital signs. If you are willing and able to donate your time, it is greatly appreciated. If not, and you know of some others that would be able to assist us, please feel free to spread the word!
If you have any questions or would like more information, please feel free to reach out to Chris Hogge, ATC at chogge@fcps.edu .

24. How do I check out my student from school?
Please let the Attendance Office know if you need your student to leave school early. You can notify Attendance 3 different ways:
- Submit the online attendance form and have your student pick up their pink checkout pass from the Attendance Office (E107) between classes or during lunch. This form must be submitted at least 30 minutes before check-out time.
- Student brings a note to the Attendance Office before 9:45am. The student will be issued a pink pass to leave class at the appointed time. The note must include the following - student name, date and time of when student is leaving, and reason for early check-out, student ID, parent signature and contact number.
- Call the attendance line, 703-503-4800 and select Option 3. After leaving a message, please have your student pick up their pink checkout pass from the Attendance Office (E107) between classes or during lunch.
At the time of dismissal, your son/daughter will bring the pink check-out pass back to the Attendance Office for verification before meeting you outside.
If returning to school that same day, students must check in at the Attendance office before going back to class, even if it is between classes.
If one of the options above is not followed, we cannot guarantee a speedy checkout, so please make sure you notify the attendance office prior to picking up your son/daughter to ensure you make your appointment or commitment on time.
Due to staff responsibilities at the end of the day, we are not able to honor unannounced early dismissals within 15 minutes of school dismissal.
For full details on Attendance Procedures, please visit the Attendance page on the Woodson website.
